Artist History
The Bluedads were formed as an act of fate. Guitarist Terry Powers met Ben Elkins at age 13.A Drummer and Powers went to high school together and were school mates. This Drummer started a band called "Crosswind" with Ben Elkins back in the mid 70's. Terry Powers was in a group called "The Time Machine" also a top local cover group at that time.(Now Lead guitarist for "Jim Dandys" "Black Oak Arkansas") Doug Royale joined thier group in 77. Powers really admired their talent. They were one of B'hams top rock cover bands. They wanted Powers in their group but it never came about until The Bluedads were formed and the magic was there! After The Bluedads were formed......we immediately began writing our own material.....our first gig was opening for The group Foreigner at The Oak Mtn. Amphitheater south of Birmingham, and was a huge hit in the local scene. Then the "HANDS OF FATE" album was underway at Duck Tape Studio in Decatur, Alabama. Owner and engineer of the studio "Johnny (The Duck) Sandlin", former producer of The Allman Brothers Band, Widespread Panic and many others, engineered and co-produced the project. The album had several tunes that got lots of air play on most radio stations around the area and southeast, and some over seas in Liverpool, England.. |
