Artist description
Los Angeles based Smart Brown Handbag is the creation of songwriter, guitarist David Steinhart. Steinhart’s career started in 1984 when he and his brothers Jeff and Richard released a six-song EP of their band Pop Art, on their own Stonegarden Records label. From 1984-1990, Pop Art made five critically lauded albums, toured the U.S. and Europe four times and garnered a cult following that exists as strongly today as it did when the band was still together. In 1994, following a brief solo stint, Steinhart formed Smart Brown Handbag with Cindy Albon on bass and Slim Glogovac on drums. Their five albums of emotionally charged, hook filled pop has gained them a national following and has proved popular with college radio and press. This years “Just Like Driving Backwards” is curretnly in the CMJ top 100. They have toured the East and West Coasts extensively and performed shows at SXSW, CMJ, and other major music conferences. |
