Artist History New York City is undoubtedly the birth place of hip-hop culture. But over the past 20 years Hip-Hop has produced stars from across the globe. So It’s no surprise that the latest addition to the rap world is coming from our nations capitol, Washington D.C. The duo known as NYRU is comprised of two MC’s, SIX & JETT. The two lyricist first hooked up in 1994 at a local recording studio working on solo projects. After finding a common ground with regard to raw style and musical taste, the two quickly joined forces and created NYRU. Word spread of the group on the gritty streets of D.C and they were hailed the best in the area. After tearing down open mikes, local festivals and college parties, the next step was to take that live energy and put it on an album. ANDITALLCAMEBACKAROUNDTOTHIS, the groups first full length album, is written and produced solely by NYRU. “Seems like rappers get a bunch of other people to make up for their lack of originality” says Six AKA, the Hundred Grand Man, “we make sure each song is something different so you don’t get tired of the same thing”. Just listening to the 11 tracks of the groups album is a testament to their passion and versatility. The music has just as much character as the lyrics. The beats are a perfect match to Jett’s raspy flow which also compliment the rugged vocals from his partner Six. The album can go from the High energy “The Hated” to the socially conscious “Where We At”. The savage melody to “Amazon” is so thick you’ll fell like you’re cutting through the jungle with a machete. Other stand out cuts like “Can’t Be Right” voices the groups opinion to people who have doubts of their success, “See your games I’m on to it/hang MC’s like ornaments/winning rap tournaments/cause I was born wit dis/gift of spilling verbs/one stone killing birds”. All ready veterans to the stage, NYRU’s live performance will take you from the audience right to the stage. “We like to make the crowd feel like they’re right next to us no matter how big the venue is”, chimes Jett from his home studio in D.C, “we try and connect with everyone we rock for”. And they continue to rock all over the world, gaining fans from Hong Kong to Germany via the internet. NYRU has been faced with many obstacles and challenges intensifying their commitment to keep heads nodding. Cause if it don’t kill you it will only make you stronger.
