Artist History
Started in 1987 by guitarists Jeff Finerman and Alex Yeung. The project/hobby soon recuited Jeff's brother, Andrew "Bubba" Finerman to play drums. Andrew had never played drums before and learned by hanging out with a neighborhood drummer friend. Jeff switched to bass and Morbid Life Society began. The name came from a Renee who influenced Andrew to begin drums. The first incarntion recorded a demo at CCSF engineered by Andre Custurio. We played a few shows before M.L.S. added Mike Finerman as a guitarist and Manny as a vocalist. Unfortunately, Manny only stayed with the band for two shows. He does appear in a remixed version of the first demo. The vocalist duties were taken over by Alex. Eventually Jeff and Mike started to do some of the vocals as well. The band continued to play Bay Area venues like the Stone, The Omni, The Full Moon Saloon, and The Pony Express. Soon corrpution was threating the music scene of S.F. The clubs started to enact a Pay to Play policy, which charged the bands money to play shows. Morbid Life Society protested this policy by picketting and protesting at the Stone to inform the patrons of the clubs unfair policies. This movement was the root to the trilogy of songs M.L.S.wrote. Pay to Play and Prostitution were the first two parts but the third was never finished. Then in 1990 Jeff left the band to pursue a school and work. M.L.S. stayed intact for another year with Mike jumping on bass. Morbid Life Society recorded a second demo with the assistance of Chris Cortez. The band continued to play shows till 1991 when we decided it was time to stop. M.L.S. leaves behind the music and energy of the crossover and hardcore scene in San Francisco in the late 80's.A few years ago Andrew "Bubba" Finerman passed away and this site is a tribute to his memory. |
