Matt is a wonderful bundle of joy! He is a Diva in his own right in the grandest sense of the word garnering standing ovations and encores whereever he plays. His shows incorporate fabulous costumes, lots of laughs, orchestral piano playing, Matt's wonderful voice, and warm insightful songs and stories about our lives. There's always lots of comedy, variety, and audience participation! As a home grown artist, Matt develops his shows here in Honolulu where he has a very loyal following, and takes them on the road. Matt recently released his new CD "Every Facet of My Heart". According to Matt, "This CD is a gift from my heart, truly a labor of love. It reflects the variety of material in our shows from spiritual Hawaiian songs to my pop originals to medleys and favorite encores. These songs reflect what I'm going through, to be myself, to express myself as fully as I can. As a result of his tour, thousands of folks have been exposed to Matt's signature songs like "Make Your Own Kind of Music/The Mary Tyler Moore Medley" and the Gaybc.com's top 5 hit "I'll Reinvent Myself". "Matt's writing really touches me," says fan club member Carolyn Golojuch. "When I first heard I'll Reinvent Myself, I just cried. That was my life Matt was singing about. As a military wife, I had to keep reinventing myself every time we moved. And we moved a lot. His songs are so powerful and universal." Matt would love to perform for your next event. Press Reviews
"Matt Yee is all jazzed up...a full handsome baritone, Yee sings with a full trained voice, and performs with seemingly boundless energy, with a smile on his face." The Washington Blade. EVERY FACET OF MY HEART by Matt Yee (Pake Records PRCD-0299) Matt Yee is emerging as Honolulu’s most daring experimental artist. Through cabaret shows and recordings, he is finding his niche. This collection reflects his diversity, his risks, his strengths. Clearly there is an artist here. The title composition fuses English lyrics with Hawaiian and projects his straightforward ballad style. Of his other originals, “In the Arms of My Beloved” and “I’ll Reinvent Myself” are positive expressions of love, of life, of living. One of the nice surprises is his interpretation of “Make Your Own Kind of Music,” the theme from the old “Mary Tyler Moore” show, with a line that sums up his posture: “You gotta make your own kind of music . . . even if nobody else sings along.” Half of the disc tracks are excerpts from his live performances; “Kaleohano” and “Home Is Where the Heart Is” are samples of his quiet passion.--Wayne Harada, The Honolulu Advertiser.
