Artist description Hessian was formed in 1997 when founding members Gus Krieger, Matt Bosma, and Joe Strouth met in high school. The band started out playing covers of some of their favorite bands from Nirvana to Filter along with writing some of their own music. They played around the area wherever anyone would allow them to whether it be at a party, a talent show or putting on their own shows in their hometown of Sibley, IA. Hessian recorded their first EP in the fall of 1999. The EP entitled ‘The Slow Slide Down’ was one of the first albums recorded at Bi-Fi studios in Ames, IA. The band then took some time off to before getting back together in the fall of 2001 to write some new songs. The songs would end up being on the band’s ‘All New Levels’ EP which was released in the winter of 2001. Recorded at Cathouse Studio in Sioux Falls, SD this album showed the bands’ growth and earned them some attention on weekly local radio shows around the area with the song ‘More Than You Can Handle.’ By this time the band was taking things more seriously and playing a lot more shows. The majority of these shows were in the Midwest, Sioux Falls in particular. Over the years many members have come and gone but in the spring of 2003 the band joined forces with former Four Day Mourning members Cevin Jacobsma and Daniel McCarty. The band immediately started playing shows and writing new songs. The new songs ended up on their newest as yet Untitled EP, again recorded at Cathouse Studios in Sioux Falls, SD. The result is the best material that has come out of the band to this date. With a more mature sound and the unmatched energy of their live show Hessian seems to be picking up steam. In the future the band intends on continuing to write and play music and expand their audience as much as possible.
