    Artist description
BITESIZE is something else, that's for sure! This San Francisco Bay area three-piece specializes in two-minute-long, super-catchy, reckless noise-pop tunes, boy-girl vocals, quirky lyrics, driving bass and drums, spastic guitar lines, and lots of jumping up and down. Far more interesting than your run of the mill punk-pop band, far less annoying than your state of the art art-rock band, Bitesize has it all!

    Artist History
BITESIZE began playing out in the SF Bay Area in 1997, quickly gaining a reputation for their energetic live shows and infectious, kick-ass songs about vehicular accidents, freak love, food, sporting events gone awry, and sex change operations. BITESIZE has headlined most SF Bay area clubs, played numerous venues up and down the west coast, and participated in several music showcases, including the 1998 and 1999 North-by-Northwest Music Festivals and San Francisco's Noise Pop '99. They have released two recordings on their own label, Packing Heat Records: the 1998 four-song 7-inch, More Songs About Cars and Body Parts and the 1999 debut CD (disguised as a greatest hits collection) The Best of Bitesize. San Francisco's SF Weekly selected The Best of Bitesize as one of the best 25 local CDs of 1999, calling it "a 20-minute disc rife with perfect, perky harmonies and shimmering guitars- an album so unapologetically immersed in goes-down-easy pop you don't so much listen to it as gum it". They are also local favorites at UC Berkeley's KALX radio station: The Best of Bitesize spent several weeks on the station's top ten and the band was featured in KALX's Spring 1999 Program Guide and included on the KALX live compilation CD, Bored, Lonely and a Little Pissed Off. They have also been included on two Heyday Records compilation CDs.

for more reviews, check out the BITESIZE home page (www.bitesize.net). this review is from www.splendidezine.com on 12-6-99:The Best of Bitesize is only twenty minutes long. It looks like it's thirty minutes, but that's because of some sneaky hidden-track action. Naughty Bitesize. It is, however, twenty of the best minutes of music I've heard all year. Bitesize makes brashy, noisy, skewed retro-punk-pop of the Pixies-on-crank variety -- they pack more hooks and more energy into ninety seconds than many bands can fit on an entire album. Give the lyrical pen of guitarist/vocalist Tom Serano plenty of credit -- he's got a flair for creating mundane-yet-brilliant choruses that work perfectly with the band's new-wavey guitar rhythm. You'll find yourself bouncing around, babbling lines like "I need a cigarette..." (from "Cold Turkey") and "I'm a hermaphrodite, but that's beside the point" (from the utterly perfect disc closer, "I Forgot My Mantra") because they've buried themselves so deep in your head. Please make certain nobody else is around if you're going to mutter about being a hermaphrodite, because rumor is a terrible thing. I'm torn here -- I really wish Best of... was longer, but it's perfect as it is. It's kind of scary to think that it takes as long to play the entire Bitesize album as it does to listen to one Godspeed You Black Emperor song, but it all comes down to economies of scale...and on the "short song" market, Bitesize is priceless.
