Artist description
A Small Good Thing is the name of an eccentric offshoot of O Yuki Conjugate, Andrew Hulme’s equally eccentric but more well known musical project. Beginning with 1994’s Slim Westerns, ASGT has mapped and explored an imaginary American West, ambling through a world of cowboys and peyote, preachers and lost souls. “Ambient Western” was how it was described at the time, and comparisons to Ry Cooder’s Paris Texas soundtrack were heard frequently. Cool Cool Water broke a two year hiatus with a more blissed-out British atmosphere. The sun-bleached preachers were still there, but the dreamlike mood was augmented by a bubbling bass-and-keyboard section. |

While acknowledging its predecessors, The Pink and Purple World of Dishonesty treads still another new path, finding inspiration in mythical America again, but this time from a distinctly English perspective. A more European sensibility is present throughout, from sophisticated ambient-lounge grooves to some authentic fish-n-chips saltiness. Clocking in at 18 songs and about 50 minutes, this new album will once again create a new niche for the scribes to define. |
