Artist History
The collaboration of singer/lyricist Elizabeth Bonanno and musician/singer/producer/writer James Wisner began in 1993. After 13 years of friendship, the partnership happened overnight. "One afternoon my vocal coach asked me to take three of my poems , and turn them into lyrics. I did it, and she handed them over to James." The writing team began immediately. It took Elizabeth six months before she would sing in front of James. "I was terrified to sing again!" says Bonanno. One evening the two sat at the piano. Elizabeth put down all her fears, closed her eyes and sang! At the end of the song the two knew they had something powerful. Elizabeth may no longer have stagefright, but she can still be seen singing with her eyes closed! The project has developed and morphed wonderfully over the years. At first, the two were completely acoustic. They hit all the coffee houses and small trendy clubs in the tri-county area of South Florida. With a following, the two dropped out for a minute, pulled together a band, and went fully electric! After placing in such events like the Zeta-4's battle of the bands at the infamous "Elbo Room", getting on the compilation CD for Disc Makers held at the Button South, and getting regular airplay on all the local shots, the band-elizabeth anne.-was doing quite well. As the scene in Miami started to change, and a lot of the places to showcase were closing, the two took this as a sign and decided to re-group and exlpore! What they have created is their vision. A strong androgynous vocal supported by a nice groove with an edge. Sort of adult-contemporary alternative. "You can feel and hear our strong rock roots"-says Wisner "but there is a definate beat happening!" "Re-mix and beyond!" says Elizabeth "This is our mantra."We are always amazed at the diverse audience we draw. "At our shows I see young techno kids, we have a large pop punk crowd, and our basic core following, the 18-32 year old crowd." The music speaks to a lot of people as do we. This project is constantly growing, and developing, and yet we keep our continuity. "I really believe it's our high expectations that make this occur. We forge through until we can say: This is the best we can do...for now!" James has expanded the studio for that reason exactly: to have the time and access to the equipment...or paints as he refers to it..to be constantly in the creative process.Maybe it's Elizabeth's deep, sensual sound and lyrics...Maybe it's incredible music and production...James'Maybe it's the years of frienship...Maybe all of the above!Whatever it is...the perserverance, independence, tenacity, talent, and drive this project has is unique and it is elizabeth anne. |
