Artist description
COVET \ v. to long to possess, to desire enviously (what belongs to another)
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his
maidservant, nor his ox, nor anything that is the property of thy neighbor. -
The Fifth Commandment of God- Exodus 20:2-17
COVET was created as a side project by Michael Areklett, bassist of the
legendary London After Midnight, pioneers of the gothic genre. The material
began as ideas for LAM that just didn’t seem to fit. The music of Covet has
been critiqued as a bit more commercial and radio friendly, having a strong
soundtrack feel- while still maintaining a hint of its darker roots.
The project initially began as a four piece. Much experimentation was done
with both sounds and members. Things were completed with the
addition of Mick Wrolson as lead vocalist. A prominent face in the local
club scene, Mick had come from a varied musical background from death-rock o
glam to punk to industrial bands with several minor successes including
Suicide Alley and Rakit.
After several months of collaboration, the group was refined down to its
core writers Michael and Mick- utilizing friends and side players, they made
small public appearances and released songs on MP3.COM. With absolutely no
marketing effort they began to build a small following and climb up the
charts- solely through quality of song writing and strength of the material.
The first two hits were tracks called "Chemical" and "Angel". This set the
tone for lyrical content and artistic themes. The focus being upon an
addiction term with a biblical reference. "We all long for success, but
music and good melody is something I am always looking for and trying to
create," - M. Areklett. In all aspects the focus is definitively upon the
music.
Currently, the group has several international tour dates set for Winter of
2001- and has announced the release of the first full length CD in the
beginning of 2002. |

Have you heard of Covet yet? If not you probably will soon. I was just sent one of their new songs, "Sweetest Lie" as a rough mix the other day and If this is a rough mix then I am very impressed with their direction and overall musical sensibility. The first thing that you notice in a song is almost always the vocals and here Mick Wrolson does a fine job of delivering a solid and confident performance layering the melodies nicely. The classic "someone's in the house" intro builds a nice musical tension into the song. I can't wait to hear the produced and final version of the song but it is good enough as is to go into rotation now.--------------------------------

Covet has been around for what feels like awhile.. Mp3.com has a few of
their goodies.. I recommend starting with Angel on the mp3.com page. It
has this eighties feel to it but very different at the same time.... I
really like the stuff and they've recently signed with Carpe Mortem Records and have
a disc set for release sometime in 2002... And that label is really shaping
up to be a good label, they have acts like Gossamer, doot doot... I can actually see them being played on a decent
modern rock station like Kroq or something. So like yeah, they're
one of the better acts running around in LA... they help filter out alot of
the crap thats out there...
