    Artist History
CoverCharge began in January 1998, in a little town outside Fresno California called Sanger, as a band called "816TKU," which was Karin Stukey's sister's (Laurie Stukey) license plate number. The first practice consisted of Nick Olson on Bass, Karin Stukey doing Vocals, and Ben Cooper on Drums.Over the next few weeks, they gained three more people: Laurie Stukey as the Interpreter for the deaf, Eric Baird on Piano, and Mandy Krum as backup vocals. Their sound began to come together as the band practiced more and more. Their set contained mostly praise and worship songs that were familiar to everybody, including a song that was a hybrid of two Jars Of Clay songs: "Four Seven" and "Weighed Down." It was from these praise and worship songs that the band decided to claim "Banner" as their signature song.Nick began to write more and more songs, and 816TKU began practicing them. They started doing various gigs at local coffee houses, and got a name among the various churches in Sanger, eventualy leading them to become the house band for the Sunday evening "Full Contact" service at Sanger First Baptist Church. In December of 1998, the band began to realize that the name "816TKU" wasn't really a name that people could remember, or that people would put on concert tickets. So the band set their minds to coming up with a new name for the band. They came up with "CoverCharge." The first time they were able to use their new name was at a coffee shop in northern Fresno called "Coffez and More," where they played a New Years show to bring in 1999. They were a hit with the audience, and CoverCharge was born. After two unsuccessful attempts at getting a guitarist, CoverCharge found Doug Nasalroad. He came to the band in the fall of 1999, and has been successfully integrated into the band. Doug is now the webmaster of the Official CoverCharge website
