Artist description
Blackwater is a difficult band to categorize. By their own admission, they play both Rock and Country (On their website they refer to themselves as "Hot Rockin' Country with an attitude"). The difficulty lies not in the fact that they play both Rock and Country, but that they play both so equally outstanding. They continually walk the fence between both genres and only sway one way or another briefly...certainly not often enough to make our job any easier. Still, we needed to classify them. Then I remembered a quote from the late, great Conway Twitty, who once said "A Good Country Song takes a page out of somebody's life and puts it to music". That is "Anything Goes". That is Blackwater. Case closed. Each tune on "Anything Goes" speaks volumes of the talent of Blackwater both as a group and each individual member. As I wrap up, I again am reminded of a quote, this time by Rodney Crowell who said "The poetry of Country Music will survive". So will Blackwater. I guarantee it.Charlie Becker, Dannick Inc.http://www.dannick.com/pa_blackwater.htm |

Press Reviews
By John Tommasio; Lewistown Sentinel: Combining the downhome melodies of country with hard drive of rock and roll is Blackwater. The four-piece Mifflin County, Pennsylvania band, named after the title of a Doobie Brothers song, proudly sports the moniker of a country and rock band with attitude. All band members share vocal duties, adding a unique dimension to live performances. Blackwater delights music fans both young and old with its various material from the past five decades of music. Many fans dance to and fro before the stage during upbeat numbers and then relax for slow dances to love songs and ballads. "Anything Goes," the first compact disc release from Blackwater, takes listeners across the musical spectrum - from traditional melodic country to hard rocking anthems. "Anything Goes" is a 12-song disc that was produced by Skip Kline at Songcrafters Studio in Beaver Springs, PA. Blackwater describes themselves as "Hot Rock 'N Country with an Attitude" and more than lives up to their sales pitch on new tracks, including "Bettin' on a Full House," "At This Moment," "Anything Goes," and "My Old Stompin' Ground." "Anything Goes" is a showcase of the band's musical diversity and instrumental expertise. The most outstanding track on the CD is "Somewhere in the Back of His Mind" written by Don Diven and Huntingdon County songwriter/performer Chris Woodward. The song chronicles the loss of memory and identify sufferd by an Alzheimer's patient and the struggle with hopelessness endured by their loved ones.By Gina Dicker, DMusic Network, A&R/Radio, Oshawa ON Canada:Playing both Rock and Country they describe their sound as “Hot Rockin’ Country with an attitude”. That much is evident when you listen to, “Gonna Play My Cards Just Right”. Straight out of the gate you are entertained by hot harmonica licks along with driving guitars and what they like to call, “a little brass section to create a Brian Setzer feeling” which revs up and boogies all the way to the end. Most of the songs on their CD “Anything Goes” are that way. If you enjoy electrically charged guitar playing, rhythmic drumming and melodic piano playing you will enjoy these tracks. The CD is also laced with more sensitive material which is portrayed tenderly on their track called “Somewhere In The Back Of His Mind” It’s a song that Pat felt he had to record to honor of the memory of his father. Wanting to send a message of hope to all caretakers of an Alzheimer’s patient. Pat wants them to know “they are not alone.” Blackwater draws their influences from the likes of, Lynard Skynard, Garth Brooks, Alabama, Kiss & Old Rock & Roll. The musical style reminds me of Bachman Turner Overdrive as well. Blackwater performs at the many festivals, clubs and concerts all over Central Pennsylvania. |
