Press Reviews
"Let me simplify this review by summing it up in just three words: GOOD, ANGRY SHIT.If I didn't know who these guys were before hearing the album, I'd start living under my desk. The album comes across as being dark... from the black and white layout to the pseudo-monotone vocals and aggresive music. While the overall production is somewhat low, the compositions and performances are great. I think an old, dusty 45 would suit 5:41 more than the high fidelity of a compact disc (on which is what this is released). Now let me get back to the compositions. You can tell the boys spent some time writing these songs. They offer more than just your verse-chorus-verse types. The instrumental tracks "Words left Unsaid" and "#51" really stand out to me. But then again, I'm a big fan of vocal-less songs in general. "#51" is particularly interesting because Pat's guitar part takes on the role of what his vocals would have sounded like on that track. Listen to it. See what I mean? I also love the guitar noise in that song. It's almost as if Buzz Osborne of the Melvins took that herbal St. John's wort shit and guest starred on the album. And while none of these songs are performed at the level Van Halen did on "Hot For Teacher" (on the album, '1984'), it still shows good musicianship. Luke's warm bass sound is very reminiscent of Jeff Pinkus' (Butthole Surfers) from there Touch and GO releases. Goddamn, I miss those days. Pat's spoken word delivery somewhat reminds me of Henry Rollins. But the more I think about it, the more I almost want to take that statement back. Overall, it's obvious, to me at least, that this band has been playing together for a while. It almost appears to be one of those types of bands that just get together to write a new song and never practice the old ones, but then later play them along with the new one that night." -AT, evansville underground web |
