Artist History
Lotek Jones first 'evolved' from the recesses of an ambient/experimental music project in 1997. As Luke reflects; "It was really just me making music on what little I had." Lotek's beginings were indeed humble, working off a 386 PC, tunes were mixed in bundled soundeditor and usually comprised of samples which had been cut or effected. "It was pretty crap, as far as I can remember there was only 1 tune which I actually liked, I remember it had this sample from some 80s movie." Now, 2 years on, Lotek Jones have progressed to cover many genres and styles. Luke also one half of Televangelist Heros with Jazz Trumpeter and all round Dj, Chris Brown. Although, in-terms of hardware, Lotek Jones have virtually remained un-changed, the difinitive factor affecting Lotek's sound is a progressive devolopment of what Luke calls 'electronic style'. "I like using the computer, its powerfull and the audio is already there mixed and digital. I have this phobia about arrogant, short-sighted, 'desk junkies' telling me about how my music should sound. 'Cause the thing that separates electronic music from alot of other styles is you have not only think of the tunes your writing, but also the kinds of sounds needed to make the song work. I like to do it myself." Kotai has big plans for Lotek Jones in the near future: "I'd like to finish and distribute my first LP sometime in the near future, but again its all down to the cash flow. I'd like to work on some new styles aswell, I think I'd like to build on the whole Cassius thing, I really dig French disco. But on the other hand Moby really has the right thing as well" |
