Artist History
Johnny Galactic is a band that thrives on acoustic sound. Although most of
their material could be played electric, the band opted to be acoustic because it
offers an emotional raw sound. The bands love and enthusiasm for music becomes
apparent in the live shows, and they are working towards creating a niche of
their own in the music world.
Johnny Galactic was formed in the spring of 1999. Following 5 months of writing
and pre-production, the band headed into the studio to record their debut album
'Are You Happy Now?'. The album was released in March 2000. For the next year the
band began to play shows in and around Edmonton, Canada to promote the record.
The album received air play on a couple of the local stations, and has thrived on
the internet. The highlight of 2000 was when the band was asked to play for the
Alberta Recording Industry Association Awards as a showcase band. They were the
only rookie band chosen. In September 2001, because of creative differences, both
drummer and bass player were dropped from the band. Founder Jon Reid then left
Canada for the United Kingdom, in search of inspiration for the next album. He is
currently writing, and performing at venues in the UK. He will be returning to Canada in
2004.

Press Reviews
2.5*'s (out of 4)This acoustic trio brings some of the sensibility back to the pop rock best typified by the Barenaked Ladies. Well-written songs and some catchy hooks make J.G. a good campfire jam CD. Check out "Streetlight" and "Are You Happy Now?"-Vancouver's 'The Province'Acoustic guitars and lean production give these songs the warmth and rugged honesty of a firm handshake. Nothing stands on ceremony here: the playing is open and clean, the lyrics simple and direct. They'll take you back to the first time you heard "August and Everything After."-lycos.com |
