Guru is an alternative rock band from Grand Island, Nebraska. The band formed in October, 1997 and over the past two years has developed an exciting sound and style which continues to change and improve. The music has been influenced by bands such as Hum, Tool, Green Day, Ben Folds\ Five, Built to Spill, Failure, Tom Petty, and Live. The end result is a powerful blend of melodically based rock. The bands main emphasis is to write music that is diverse and catchy. The diversity is evident on the bands full length album, "Virtues". |

Artist History
Guru has played extensively in Central Nebraska including small venues such as Cunningham's in Kearney and PJ's in Hastings. Other sites which Guru often plays is the Super Bowl, Sundowner, several local youth events and many private parties, all in Grand Island, NE. The band is now looking to expand its coverage area and hopes to be recognized by a record label. At the present time Guru is working on material for a new CD to ber released summer 2000. |

Group Members
Guru's musical background comes from many areas. Flaherty has played the guitar for six years. He is self-taught and plays by ear. He also participates in high school band where he plays first chair trombone. In addition, Andy's vocals are incredible. Two years in a row he has been among a group of 100 students selected from six states to participate in the regional American Choral Directors Association Honor Choir. He has played the lead role in his high school musical production of "Westside Story" and a secondary role in "Once upon a mattress". Overfield, who has been drumming for seven years, is self taught in percussion and aside from high school band has no other training. Dubas has played bass for three years and is also self taught. Both Dubas' and Overfield's enthusiasm adds to the exitement in a live show. |
