Press Reviews
Down My Throat "Real Heroes Die" CD 8/10 - [Full House]
In your face metalcore from Finland, and this shit packs a punch! This is definitely one of the best releases I've heard from the genre lately, and the band clearly deserves more attention. "Real Heroes Die" is chock full of vicious mosh breaks and crunchy metal riffs, all forceful and memorable. Some tinges of melody are also present from time to time. Tons of tempo changes and a higher than average level of aggression keep things moving. The vocals are distinct, gruff shouts that have a different texture from the norm. Very cool. Down My Throat isn't exactly innovative, but they don't remind me of anything offhand either. The songs are more energetic than most, and that's the plus.
The production is amazing. They may be an underground band on an independent European label, but this thing sounds like a million bucks. The drums are taut, but the mix is dominated by a wall of guitars and bass so it works out perfectly. The immense low end rounds out all of the crisp treble frequencies. Lyrically things are pissed, as blunt titles like "Full of Shit" suggest, and the topics vary from abusive relationships to depression. An excellent layout complements things nicely, with tons of subtle details and an obvious attention to the importance of a solid visual presentation. This is an amazing effort, literally as professional as something on the Victory Records level all around. Definitely look out for this band if you're into brutal, metal driven hardcore.
