Artist History
David Castle is not a newcomer to music or the record business. Growing up around music, Castle began playing the piano at the age of 3 and began writing songs as a teenager. His professional music career began with a move to Hollywood at age 21. With experiences ranging from touring with The Monkees to conducting the Royal Philharmonic and appearing on Top of the Pops, Castle has long been a well seasoned writer and performer. During the 1970's, as a young staff songwriter for United Artists Music Publishing, Castle's songs were recorded by Helen Reddy (for which he received a gold record), The Lettermen, Bobby Vinton, Marilyn McCoo, and many others. In 1977 Castle released his debut album, "Castle in the Sky," as the launching artist on Parachute Records, a subsidiary label of Casablanca Records and Filmworks. In 1978, he placed a song in the Academy Award-winning film "Midnight Express" and was nominated for a Grammy for Album of Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or TV Special. His second album, "Love You Forever," was released in 1979. In the 1980's Castle diversified his skills, composing and orchestrating music for commercials, television, and film, and setting up a recording studio. As a songwriter and arranger he continues to score music for a variety of projects and produces songs regularly for other artists. Castle's third album, an independent project entitled "Voice In The Wind," was recently released. He most recently scored the MCI "New World" spot with his own copyrighted arrangement and recording of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" which is currently airing nationwide on all Free TV networks. In addition, Castle has the current single, "Endlessly," on jazz artist, Dean James. On a freelance basis, David is composing various music cues for TV and film for music libraries based in Los Angeles. |
