    Artist History
...the music of Universal Overdose The summer of 1999 was a pivotal time for Atlanta based musician Bruce Butkovich. After having spent years as a side man for multiple bands (Moonbird, 5 More Dead) and feeling creatively stifled by the confines of a democratic band dynamic, Bruce took his experiences as a writer and singer to a level that fit his ever growing aspirations...the music of Universal Overdose. Solidifying that fall, the Atlanta band consisted of writer/singer/guitarist Bruce Butkovich, drummer Michael Allen (the Goodies!, ISS), bassist Ryan Acree, and guitarist Chris Hoke (3d5spd). Since coming together, the group has recorded and released two EP's, and one full-length album, "Scenes from the Imploding Heart". Universal Overdose is a unique brand of rock music, blending melodic vocals and distorted guitar. This music consistently carries a commentary on modern society and/or human experience. The music contains an honest integrity that cannot be found on current radio and television stations, and fills a void caused by the homogenized music of today. Certain elements are influenced by artists such as Bad Brains, David Sylvian, Faith No More, and Jeffrey Gaines though the end result is truly something that stands alone. In a music business that subscribes to the notion that if "that" band makes money, the sure-fire way for you to do so is by playing the same music, Universal Overdose is one of the glimmers of hope that is based on the message, not the money. In the last year, Universal Overdose has expanded its line-up to accommodate the shifting personal lives and availability of its founding members. This has allowed for a unique growth in their music as each member brings their own influence and quality to performances and recordings. This concept has grown to include a Los Angeles version of the band featuring bassist William Bosler (Twitches, Moonbird), guitarist Sunny Mag (FM, The Fantastic Magroovies) and drummer Marcos Maura (The Masons, Fester). The communal concept of Universal Overdose (or franchising, as someone recently called it...) has allowed it to expand in a exponential way, including more frequent live shows to promote their forthcoming, double album "emotional engineering [ e(il)lusive ideas and other voices in the ether ]". Fans have found a unique quality in the music and the concept of Universal Overdose. Unlike other rock bands in form or sound, they are opening a new door in modern music. We think you'll like what you find. Fashionability may attract the curious, but undiluted passion captivates the soul.
