Artist description
It is a documented fact that this music occurs spontaneously and intermittently in the back room of a small hardware store in Paramaribo, Suriname, where it is sometimes captured by neighborhood teens interested in the phenomenon whenever they have tape for their small, hand-held recorder. It has been speculated by the hardware store employees that the sounds are a result of the interaction of the rags and solvents kept in the storeroom, while others claim that the store's proximity to the Gravenstraat, Paramaribo's main street, has to do with the unusual phenomenon, due to the presence in one nearby block, of a mosque, an ashram, and a recording studio frequented by Javanese pop singers. Still other neighborhood residents, of Guyanese extraction, insist that the noises, which occur at odd hours, are psychokinetic and electromagnetic reiterations of the deceased messianic North American preacher, Jim Jones... |
