'ten thousand things' - 2000 [independently produced]
    Press Reviews
" ' ten thousand things ' has a nice, unified feel. André has found the key to doing ambient, which I think is restraint and subtlety, taking just a few elements and letting them play out." - David Slusser [TZADIK recording artist] ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ André Custodio's aptly titled CD 'ten thousand things' is like a sojourn through the inner vastness of the soul; At times abstract and minimal, other times the sounds carry one to the sensually vast and liquid planes, and always there is the sense of the ominous. A great deal of harsher elements also color the soundscapes on 'ten thousand things', but André never "assaults" but churns like the rolling thunderhead, slowly, steadily, unstoppable in its forward momentum, gradually washing over you like a vast ethereal sea of sound. Elements of noise and twisted frequency add highlight without being rote or predictable. Alien melodies can be found fluttering atop heavy beds of sub harmonics that bear one along the dark edges of un-imagined nebulae, opening rifts in time beyond time, deep into the heart of the soul. Custodio has a great talent for contrasting the minimal with the complex. Soundscapes meld seamlessly between moods and settings. The mind has a veritable smorgasbord of possibilities opened by the intricate sonic web weaved on 'ten thousand things.' This interplay of sound and soul is what gives the CD such a character and strength without being overstated or obvious. Each listen allows the mind to spiral just a bit deeper into the beautiful abyss of darkness painted by Custodio. Without realizing it, the sense of mundane reality is gradually replaced by the ever deepening journey, as the listener is t ransported across Limbo to the Well of Souls... to become one with the liquid flow of timelessness... Sound a bit dramatic? Listen to 'ten thousand things' and I think it will seem an accurate description. This is an epic tale of the unholy and the d ivine. A tale at once abstract and delightfully palatable, beckoning the listener like a siren. A tale of rituals ancient and alien, sung by the mouth of the machine. And throughout this tale, Custodio strides like a tech-priest, preaching to the teeming masses the "sermon" of the "Nihil texts...." To look, to seek, to delve deep into the darkness within all.......... this is 'ten thousand things.' - Gene [Founder: Dark Seeds Recordings]
