Artist History
An engaging world-class performer whose influences range from John Mellancamp to Joni Mitchell with many points in between, Melanie DEKKER is entertaining and captivating. Her sound is best described as "sweet acoustic pop rock". An accomplished and emotive songwriter, Miss Dekker writes songs about love and all kinds of relationships and she performs them with a high-energy passion. Whether alone on stage with just her acoustic guitar, or fronting a full group , her performances soar with aggressive guitar playing and deep, powerful vocals. Dekker has toured extensively. In Vancouver she has headlined such well-known venues as the Railway Club, the Roxy, Richard's on Richards, the East Cultural Center and the Starfish Room. She has projects and upcoming performaces in Vancouver, LA, Toronto, and New York. And this year you can catch her in Germany and Holland as well. |

Press Reviews
Vancouver's energetic, emotional and musical Melanie DEKKER began performing at the early age of 13. She cut her teeth in the coffee houses of Deep Cove, British Columbia, where the patrons were captivated by the talent and ability of this extremely young performing songstress. Ms. DEKKER could not shake the performing bug so immediately after music college she embarked on her first tour and didn't stop for three years. The tour took her to Nashville where Melanie's vocal and songwriting talents won her contests and captured the attention of several of Nashville's who's who. But a career in country music was not the direction that Melanie saw herself taking. She played the festivals, rodeos, sports arenas, bars and dance halls of Western Canada, recorded some songs along the way and received her share of heartbreak and hard times while continuing on the road to finding her true direction and musical identity. Currently this sparkling 5'8 beauty, who is a favorite of photographers wherever she performs, is captivating audiences with a magical multi-colored voice and out of the ordinary performances. Always at home in the intimate setting, Melanie DEKKER reminds us of the great pop minstrels of the 60's who changed the face of music. Her award-winning real life stories combined with hook-laden melodies bring the audience inside the acoustic pop world of Melanie DEKKER. Although her first voyage into the recording world was with a band of the most respected musicians, Melanie DEKKER is a solo artist in the truest sense and will always win over new fans wherever she performs. This was evident of her recent tour opening for "Bif Naked" where she received rave reviews for her powerful solo performances (You can catch her in Bif's new "Lucky" video too.) |
