Artist History
Kjehl Johansen was an original member of the Los Angeles based bands The Urinals, 100 Flowers and Trotsky Icepick. Starting in 1978, The Urinals formed Happy Squid Records and released one single and two EPs before changing their name to 100 Flowers and releasing an album and a five song EP. The band broke up in 1983 and Johansen resurfaced in 1986 with Trotsky Icepick, a band with a twisted approach to pop music. After releasing two albums on the Old Scratch label, the band was picked up by SST Records. The first two albums were re-released as well as five additional albums before the band broke up in 1993. In 1990, Rhino records re-issued the 100 Flowers material and in 1996 The Urinals materal was re-issued on AmRep. After a reunion with The Urinals to promote the AmRep re-issue, Johansen began work on several solo projects, the first of which is the four song CD Pieman vs. The Light Bulb Men. |
