Artist History
Taking their name from the Dylan song, and with a little play off of the Dr. Hook idea - made legitimate by Cliff's Ph.D. - this band specializes in fun live music and interesting lyrical songs original with the band. The songs are mostly written by Clifford Fry, a guitar player and economist, and Douglas Sharp, a mathematician and poet. After playing extensively in the broader Houston area clubs and for corporate and association parties, the band is currently concentrating onrecording. Their disc River Bolt of Lightning has appeared on severalEuropean Country Music Association Top 40 Album country charts, and the band has appeared on several Most Played Independent Artists charts in Europe. Only Car In Your Garage was featured on Car Talk, a PBS radio show, in 1999. Songs from the album have appeared on the International Country Music Association charts in 1999 and 2000. The album was released in early 2000 to select U.S. radio stations. The disc is available through Amazon.com, CDNOW.com, TheOrchard.com, and other Internet sites. The band consists of Ken Bujnoch on keyboards, Clifford Fry on Vocals and Guitar, Max Fry on Bass, Darelyn Jennings on Vocals, Randy Leblanc on electric guitar, Lance Webb on Drums and vocals, and Kurt Zech on electric guitar. Their music has been featured in Texas Monthly , Pete Smith's RockPile (U.K.), Betsy Parish's Society Column, Houston Post, and other publications. Press Reviews
"an 8 piece Houston group and one of the finest country and old time Rockn Roll bands in town..." MUSIC NEWS - APRIL 1989 ... An album I find myself turning to again and again. The seven guys' collective name, Dr. Fry's Texas Medicine Band, has a sense of humour to it and so do the ten original songs on "River Bolt Of Lightning"(Comstock). Throughout the humour though, there is much for the dancers as well as the listeners, for these guys are a seriously talented group. The "Dr. Fry" is in fact Clifford Fry, the principal songwriter, who shares lead vocals with one Darelyn Fry Jennings on such gems as "Only Car In Your Garage", "Mr. Heavy", "Fat Farm","Judy Lou" and a live cut on "Texas Medicine".
