Artist History
Aye's music is an eclectic mix of original songs rooted in folk, with soul, rock and world influences. AYE (pronounced i-yay), have a trademark sound. Some people describe their music as mesmerizing...enchanting...distinctive...trance-like. One thing is certain, the music of Aye is hard to compare, as their sound is so much their own. Adrienne and Marsia Shuron Harris, joined forces after co-writing their first tune together, Aye. As solo artists they received more than their share of attention. Marsia Shuron gave her debut performance with a seven-piece band at the Hatchshell, quickly gained popularity, and was sought out by both ABC TV and college radio for live performances. Atlantic Recording Artist Martin Sexton says Marsia has, ?the deepest, darkest, most delicious voice I?ve ever heard.? Adrienne, a Boston Music Awards nominee, received heavy rotation on college radio, a spotlight article in Boston Women Magazine, and was featured in Songtalk , a publication of the National Academy of Songwriters where she was described as being an ?exquisite talent.? After performing in the Florida Keys where Aye fine tuned their act and were interviewed and reviewed by almost every paper in the area as well as on television and radio; the girls headed home. Since their return to New England, Aye has recorded their debut CD, was chosen out of 250 entries to audition for Sarah McLaughlin?s Lilith Fair and have been performing at festivals, coffeehouses and venues such as Club Passim and The Bitter End. They continue to reap high praise. Boston Tab writer Ken Capobianco, judge for the Lilith Fair Talent Search, writes how, ?impressed? he is with Aye?s,?original sound.? Aimee M. Petrin of VOX Magazine, says their music is,?mesmerizing.? Valerie Ridenour of Key West The Newspaper says, ?Once in a blue moon I am fortunate enough to hear an act that is of such quality... Each is a superb lead singer, but when the exceptional voices harmonize they are magical.? The response to their music is always spectacular. Moving through a tapestry of soulful melodies, world/rock rhythms and engaging lyrics, their harmonies, outstanding songs and vocal blend; take their listeners on an incredible journey through groove and emotion. As Moe Lallane, writer for Tropic Keys describes them, ?Aye is a musical success story in the making.? Aye is currently touring and anticipating the release of their debut CD due out this spring. Press Reviews
Boston Globe written by David Wildman July 12, 1998 On The RiseWhen Adrienne Zolondick (who goes by her first name only)and Marsia Shuron Harris wrote the song AYE (pronounced I-yay), they had made up the word, giving it the meaning "celebration of life." It wasn't until after they decided to name their new musical group AYE that they learned the word they had created really did exist. They found it in an African language spoken by the Yoruba, and it does, in fact, mean something akin to celebration of life. "We knew then that this group was something we needed to explore," says Harris. Her deep, soulful voice helps create a distinctive blend with guitarist Adrienne's crystalline,higher-pitched vocal sound. The two met while performing separately on the streets of Harvard square in 1991. Both had been pursuing burgeoning careers, playing at coffeehouses and clubs like Christopher's(now called Toad) and the Channel. They formed AYE, and after playing a few Boston shows decided to take their act down to Key West, Florida. Live they perform as a duo, but for their recordings, they have built an entire band sound using additional players and overdubs. The result is a commercially viable product, especially with Adrienne's voice, which brings to mind the sweet resonance of Jennifer Kimball, and Harris's sound and look. They're currently recording with David Tortolano at Cosmo Recording in Boston. Although Aye plays mostly within the folk scene in town, their infectious world beat rhythms also work well at a club like the Middle East."Someone described our music as Universal Rock," says Harris. "Considering the name of the group, I think that is appropriate. *******************************************************************************************************************************************Northeast Performer Magazine writes: "the music these two fine women weave are soulful and beautiful enough to inspire even the most cynical bastard to dance." *******************************************************************************************************************************************Seven Days Newspaper says, "the voices of Aye are remarkable, and capable of melodic mesmerism...voices that alone distinguish them in the crowded singer/songwriter field." |
