    Artist description
[ cell 7 ] are a popular alternative electronic band from Perth Western Australia. Their appeal stems largely from the fact that they are indeed an original sounding act, combining cutting edge and often harsh electronics with strong vocal melodies and solid song structure. This results in many people having difficulty catagorising [ cell 7 ], but has lent itself to the band having a very broad fanbase.

Now here is a band that has potential to be HUGE - across the genres oftechno, electronica, industrial, synth-pop and gothic music. I first heardCell 7, who come from the very isolated Australian city of Perth, on acompilation CD a few years ago. That track "red" greatly impressed me. Theother 6 tracks here are all just as awesome and send shivers up the spine.Cell 7 have a sound that is at once both cutting edge and accessible to awide audience. If you're a fan of groups like Nine Inch Nails, DepecheMode, Covenant, X Marks the Pedwalk and other groups of the heavier end ofsynth-pop and from intelligent techno, then you'll love this. Funnilyenough, I've never liked NIN or D.M., but Cell 7 do this genre of music ina way that really captures me. They seem to have successfully taken thegood qualities of those bands, thrown out the annoying ones, and forgedahead with their own sound. Cell 7's sound consists of varied syncopatedbeats, soaring synths, bubbling acid bass synthlines, sparse and well usedguitars or guitar samples, combined with the evocative male vocals. It's avoice that yearns with emotion; encapsulates the romantic idealism, mysticism and yearning of youth. Normally I'd cringe away from somethingdescribed as that, but Cell 7 do it so well. I guess it's just that theyhit the nail on the head, while others try and miss. The songs andarrangements are excellent, compositions that glue themselves into thespace between the ears. The production is top class. The severalinstrumentals on here, whilst adventurous, are also world classdancefloor-friendly intelligent acid-techno. As for many of the tracks withvocals, while they are not overtly "dancey", they have the potential tokeep dance floors full in the gothic/industrial/electronica nightclubs too.Once they find out about them, I expect there will be numerous labelsfighting and squabbling to get Cell 7 onto their catalogue. I'vebeta-tested this CD on people who are both deeply intoelectronica-industrial-synth music as well as those who only know thecommercial end of it such as NIN and DM, and both groups loved this. 7tracks over 40 minutes.
