Artist History Like Van Halen, - Sri - is both the name of the band and it’s founder singer/guitarist, but that’s about where the similarities end… well except for the long hair … but it looks better on her... Altho originally Australian, she lived in New York City for a few years before settling in Los Angeles and forming ‘Sri’ in ’99. Sri’s music perfectly captures the heavy yet melodic style of southern California. The hardcore background of the group, together with their keen sense of melody make this a band heavy enough to crash your car to yet melodic enough to sing your little heart out in the process!The CD “Gravity Reminds Me” is a collection of 13 songs ranging from the thrashy “Loverboy” to “Raj” a trance piece featuring Brahmin chants and is released on Sri’s DIY label Blue Boy Records. Touring extensively, Sri has developed an international following with fan bases that extend throughout Eastern and Western Europe, Australia, Asia and the America’s. Her following is grassroots and devout.Sri has a sideline project performing classical Indian devotional songs or “bhajans” and also performs Bharat Natyam, a form of Indian traditional ‘story telling’ dance. Press Reviews Blatant girl-pop rock with edgy guitars and indie-punkcred (earned by Sri as a member of Baby Gopal). Forgetthe electronica craze that Garbage is trying to pinit’s hopes and future on, this is the real deal withguitars plugged into amps that are turned up to 8.There is also a Middle Eastern flair that accentuatessome of the songs (the six-minute "Raj," forinstance). Sri’s vocals at times echo Velocity Girl’s Sarah Shannon as does the music, though GravityReminds Me is more caffeinated than any of Velocity Girl’s releases and not as smiley face happy. With empowering lyrics and positive themes, this release is for the girl who aspires to be a superhero like WonderWoman. (Chip Midnight)Grog MutantThis just goes to show that covers can be deceiving. I was expecting some mellow, arty type of thing…boy was I wrong. Many of the songs are similar in sound to Elastica and some are in the Blondie vein. She has a great seductive voice, which really caught me, especially on the songs that rock out. Overall they have a very fun, energetic sound that is super catchy. Some songs eek into the power ballad zone, but the rest of the release makes up for those forays. {Grog}
