Artist description
Authentic high energy and relaxing music from the Andes. Pachamama is the yugoslav musical group which performs the music of the Andes on authentic instruments. Its name in the language of the Quechuas means "The Mother Earth" and is one of the principal divinities in the religion of the autochtonous inhabitants of the Andean region. There is a lot of classic music influence in Pachamama's interpretation of andean music and therefore classical instruments (like piano or classical guitar) are incorporated together with pure autochtonous instruments like tarkas or antaras. The members also play some renaissance pieces using andean instruments. The general idea is to make parallels between various kinds of music and to point to the historical influences among them. |

Artist History
The musical group Pachamama was founded in Belgrade (Yugoslavia) in 1989, with the aim to perform traditional and composed music of the Andes (Bolivia, Peru and Argentina). Up to now, the group participated on several national and international festivals and gave quite a number of recitals in Yugoslavia, Poland, Italy, Greece, Hungary and Turkey. In the actual Yugoslavia it is the only musical group which performs andean music and consists entirely of non-latinamerican members. On ocasion of "Segundo Encuentro de Latinoamericanistas" (Belgrade - 1998) Pachamama participated with the work "Short Summary of Main Andean Instruments and Basic Rhytmical Patterns" which was published afterwards and can be found on Pachamama Web presentation as well. |
