    Artist History
krewcial starts rhyming & producing in '91, using just 2 tapedecks and 1 turntable. His underground homemade-tapes are distributed through the local recordshop. He is the first one in Belgium to release tape-albums and to do so independently, even before dj-mixtapes arise. Due to the situation (lack of clubs and/or promoters) there aren't many opportunities to perform live, so krewcial has to resort to the occasional freestyle after local shows. In '94, krewcial wins a local music-contest in Ghent, called 'Kort Gerockt!'. This results in more shows [a.o. opening for BECK] and some media-attention from newspapers and local television. From then on, GUS [who guested occasionally on krewcial's tapes] teams up with krewcial as dj and back-up mc. After conquering the hearts of the Belgian hiphopheads, krewcial starts focusing on The Netherlands : both national VPRO-radio and concerthall Paradiso start supporting him. Dutch emcee #1 EXTINCE asks krewcial to feature on his debutalbum. Tape n° 6 'Monastic' gets very enthusiastic reviews nationwide and the first contacts with record labels are being established. Meanwhile krewcial records some underground 4-track classics with the Bay Area-based LIVING LEGENDS (Mystik Journeymen & the GROUCH). The fall of '97 is completely devoted to building his own recording studio and taping 'Live Guy With Glasses' (which will become krewcial's official debut after 8 tapes). Because of the record industry's mysterious ways the album is released only 1.5 year later... In the meantime, krewcial is also recording Dutch-spoken tracks, producing & engineering for other crews [Frithop-compilation, DHL/Brick 9000 12" and RIVAL-album] and putting together a liveband with Maxime Lenssens [drums], Maarten Standaert [bass] and Peter Lesage [keys]. A Dutch director makes a documentary about krewcial, which is broadcasted on national TV later. After releasing 'Live Guy With Glasses' in March '99 things start coming together : - extensive touring @ a.o. Paradiso (Amsterdam), De Effenaar (Eindhoven), Gentse Feesten, Couleur Café, Dour and Paulusfeesten, - krewcial opens for THE ALKAHOLIKS, BLACKSTAR, ROB SWIFT, COMPANY FLOW, THE PHARCYDE and GZA/GENIUS... - 'Zoete Inval' becomes the new Extince-single; the accompanying video turns krewcial into a street-celebrity in The Netherlands, - krewcial starts hosting THE HOP, Belgium's first hiphopshow on national radio Studio Brussel in September '99 ... krewcial is currently preparing his next album [feat. a.o. TANJA SAW [ZAP MAMA]], a Dutch-spoken album [feat. a.o. EXTINCE] and doing [pre]production for tracks by GUS, BRAINPOWER and TANJA SAW.
