Norfolk jacket performs Canadian Folk-Rock in the spirit of great bands like 54-40, The Northern Pikes, The Lowest of The Low and, of course, The Hip.In January of 2001, Norfolk jacket went on a short hiatus so the band members could concentrate on their other projects:Mike Stewart is working on his solo project. Bill Torrance has been picked up by a label, we wish him the best of luck. Frank Erhardt is now the front man for Sublingual. Tom Pacia sings for the ska band Offbeat Habits when he's not recording demo songs for the next Woodroes album. Matthew Fogel continues to live and work in St. Catharines, where he's currently working on material for the next Norfolk jacket session.

    Artist History
To discover the roots of Norfolk jacket, you have to look back to the summer of 1992. Fueled by the Toronto/Hamilton punk scene that was then spilling over into Niagara, four young musicians (Matthew Fogel, Frank Erhardt, Quinn McColgan and Craig Collins) started Souracid. They practiced everyday after work in Matthew's parent's garage covering the Sex Pistols in earnest. After a summer of rehearsals, they made their debut at St. Catharines' famous basement club, The Hideaway. With college and university starting, and two of the members heading to schools out of town, Souracid disbanded shortly after. Then in 1993, Matt and Frank began busking outside of a downtown store, Blue Moon Vintage Clothing. Matt played his Anjo Student guitar and Frank played brushes on a snare. Also around this time, they began playing at various open mic venues in St. Catharines: "Free Pee World" with John Press at Jerry's Alley, The Club's "Sunday Night Jam", and "Thursdays with Big Dave" at The London Arms. Also during this time, Matthew recorded three songs at The Woodroes' home studio with their lead singer, Tom Pacia. This was the first recording session for the project that became Norfolk jacket. In 1996, Frank began drumming for Inner Sound Accelerator. Meanwhile, inspired by the Jazz Butcher Conspiracy's evershifting co-conspirators, Matt continued his collaborations with other musicians he met through open mic nights. During this time he worked with Bill Torrance, Jeffrey Rosetto, Mike Stewart and others. Jeffrey left to play in ____ and soon after Frank returned to the Norfolk jacket drum kit. By the end of the year, the famous Good Intentions line-up was set. Mike Stewart on lead guitar, Bill Torrance on guitar, Matthew on Bass and Frank on drums. In 1997, Good Intentions, their first single, was recorded and produced at Rob Deacon's Prodigy Studios (The Mojos, Human Disorder) and released by Pastel Records on the comp "7 Shades". 1998 was a quiet year for Norfolk jacket. Frank moved to Toronto to work as a stage hand. Mike worked on other projects including Open Window, and his own band, Mark Matthews. Bill Torrance concentrated on his own material, writing and performing around Niagara, and Matt settled down to raise a family with his new wife Sheri. Then in 1999, things began to build. With the blessing of Neo Cultural Front Records, recording for a debut album started. This site showcases the fruit of these sessions.
