Press Reviews
CD-album "digger" 05-2001 Thatīs whatīs worth a big smoke ! Cologne artist Riad Michael made any effort to win our labels final cup in the discipline of "how chill can you get"! He did so by delivering an album, which is equiped with the most casualness and receptiveness, definetly leaving no space to discuss on either stylism or style-technical intolerance (whatever you want to call it). Therefore we found it to be essential to sign him on spot. And here we go: Riad Michael aka GEYSER making his debut on Mehrwert-Records with his album DIGGER. In musical terms it works like this: Maintainig an extremly kicking mixture of carefully produced funk-fusion-goodies, over electro-, dub-, jazz- and drumīnđ bass influences summing up to a seriously personal vision of actually completly relaxed "floating-tunes" getting in with ...sort of... "trip hop" ( donīt judje, apperently there is no other word for it), movie-soundtrack and maybe something like..new funk??? Riad Michaelīs work convinces basically because of the extraordinary professional dramatic construction and the programming, wich in fact apears like a dubby jam session. His really casual way of producing music may have its roots in his experiences as a composer of soundtracks for short- and movies. Funky-dub-fusion-movie-core?...wow! By now we are looking forward to all the strange and complicated new words and attemps to describe this style by all those people working for the press, but mainly want everybody to have (?the hell of?) a lot of fun!
