    Artist description
Carl Weingarten has been creating his uniquely expressive music for over 20 years. He has been compared to such artists as Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, David Torn, Bill Frisell and Leo Kottke. Carl first gained attention in the early 1980s with his debut recording, Submergings. An album of rich electronic landscapes, Submergings was the first of many releases on the Multiphase Records label. Carl's studio productions and late-night guitar concerts at the Tivoli Theater in St. Louis established him as a pioneer in the independent music scene. For virtually all of his recordings, Carl has brought together a diverse range of talented instrumentalists, including musicians from the United States, China and Pakistan. The interplay between these various artists is one of the hallmarks of a Carl Weingarten project. An excellent slide guitarist, prolific composer and producer, Carl has been critically praised on both sides of the Atlantic, including reviews in Musician, Keyboard, Option, Expose and HotWired Magazines. Carl was also profiled on Public Television with his techno-pop band Delay Tactics, and featured on National Public Radio programs, All Things Considered, Echoes, Hearts of Space and New Sounds. Tours nationally include solo performances, as well as the opening act for drummer Bill Bruford's Earthworks group. Carl's discography includes numerous CDs, soundtracks, and collaborations with artists Michael Manring, Alex de Grassi, Jie-Bing Chen, DJAM KARET, Kit Watkins, Fareed Haque, Walter Whitney, Gale Ormiston, Joe Venegoni and many others. He has also recorded for Grammy winning producers Kavi Alexander (Water Lily Acoustics) and Bill Bottrell (Sheryl Crow, Madonna, Jars of Clay). Carl is active in the visual arts, producing scores for film, dance, video and multimedia. Two new CDs, Blue Faith and Escapesilence are due for release in 2000. Carl lives in Alameda California.

    Press Reviews
"Carl's work covers a vast amount of territory, from progressive cinematic sci-fi world rock to solo bluesy acoustic slide dobro, from dreamy ambient electronic soundscapes to the cyclical twittering proto-techno of his early-eighties band Delay Tactics. Through the years he has released number of CDs, both as solo artist, and in collaboration with other like-minded musicians such as Michael Manring, Kit Watkins, Walter Whitney, Joe enegoni, Barry Cleveland, Kavi Alexander and Gale Ormiston." -- Expose Magazine ******************** "Weingarten is a virtuoso on the electric guitar, a player blessed as much with expressivity as with technique, and practically everything he's written offers him the chance to prove it. " --St. Louis Post-Dispatch *********************** "Carl Weingarten is one of the truly great indie musicians working today." -- San Francisco Chronicle
