Artist History
Randi Driscoll is a singer songwriter from Southern California whose piano driven acoustic music is as hauntingly modern as it is classic. Named San Diego’s “up and coming acoustic act” in the September, 1997 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, her talents have earned her opening slots for Pat Benatar, Jonatha Brooke, Sally Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Bruce Hornsby, Joan Jett, Dar Williams, Bob Weir’s Ratdog and Jackson Browne. Her performance credits include a spot on the Showtime stage at the Millennium March on Washington and an appearance at Lincoln Center in the Bang on a Can festival. Along with being a featured artist on several internet sites, Randi is a five time San Diego Music Award nominee and Femmusic.com’s Artist of the Year, 2000. In January of last year, Randi won the IAM.com national talent search, where she competed against 2,000 applicants to earn a slot performing her own original song in a commercial directed by Spike Lee. Randi has contributed her vocal talents to many projects, including a cd by former San Diego Padre, Tim flannery. The cd, “Pieces of the Past” also features Jackson Browne and Bruce Hornsby. Whether Randi is performing solo or with her band, critics agree, what shines through is her raw passion and honest connection with any audience.Although she takes great pride in her many accomplishments, Randi’s greatest personal success has been the release of the benefit single, “What Matters”, written in memory of Matthew Shepard, a young man who lost his life in a brutal hate crime. Randi’s song is endorsed by Matthew’s mother, Judy Shepard, The Matthew Shepard Foundation, New Light Media and several other organizations. All of the proceeds from the single go to anti hate crime charities. Randi has traveled to over 60 cities in the USA and Canada, promoting the single and raising awareness. Randi often appears as Judy Shepard’s guest to perform the song at colleges and high schools around the country.”What Matters” is featured in several documentaries and was given a special mention in the December, 1999 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, in an article featuring Elton John and Melissa Etheridge. |
