Artist History
In the beginning-in high school-there was Christian Jun and a pretty-damb-good band called 16 TALES. Christopher Boman (lead singer and producer of Opium Fine) met Christian, at the time. 16 TALES went on to play L.A. clubs like the Whiskey, and the Roxy. They hired on a singer by the name of Buck Murphy who left 16 TALES just before they broke up. Buck ended up with a band named LIQUID JESUS who was signed by MCA ; they released a CD with Buck on board. Synchronicity being what it is, Christopher Boman was working for MCA at the time LIQUID JESUS' CD came out and saw them on a drawing board in MCA's Graphic Arts Dept. Their song "Stand" became the title song for the Christian Slater film PUMP UP THE VOLUME.Christopher Boman and Christian Jun had stayed in touch. They talked about starting up another band and talk turned into reality. Christopher had been taking voice lessons and could perform as lead singer. They had a band of two. On a spur-of-the-moment trip to Santa Barbara, in a Chinese fast food restaurant in SB, Christian hummed a riff to Christopher-Christopher liked it and heard the vocals in his head for a song. The song became "Passage of Time", the lead song on Opium Fine's CD, BAD KITTY. More songs followed. Now they had a sound and only needed a band.Again, synchronicity intervened: Christopher Boman and abdate went to a Sushi bar for dinner one evening. The seats they chose happened to be next to Duke Ellington's nephew, Ron Ellington Shye (founder of the Drifters and Coasters). Christopher began talking with Ron, telling him about their need for musicians. Ron promptly hooked Christopher up with a drummer. A bass player followed, and the band VALHALLA was born.In the year that followed, VALHALLA went through 4 drummers, Christian left, Christopher sang with other bands. It looked like Christopher Boman and the business of making music were ill-met. He kept at it. Soon, he met Woody, then Jimmy, then Mike. It was a band again. This time they called themselves OPIUM FINE and decided to pool their resources to make a 4-songdemo tape. With work and Christopher Boman maxing out his credit cards and selling all his worldly goods, it became more than a demo. A full-art CD/EP was born: BAD KITTY.Since the production of the CD, the band has been changing faces as it continues to be a “revolving-door” of musicians. What will be the new line-up? ...who will be next? |
