    Artist description
Jeanne Stark-Iochmans has earned a well-deserved reputation as a master artist. She is much loved and respected by an ever-growing audience in northern California, around America in communities where she has made a musical home, and in Belgium and France. A rare dedication to the spiritual aspects of music has led her away from the traditional career and hectic touring schedules which, for her, would sacrifice the deeper dimensions of music. Rather she has taken the enviable road of selecting repertoire carefully and working with it over time changing and growing in understanding before performing. Jeanne's artistry has been regarded with the highest esteem by some of the great musical masters of her time.
    Musical Influences
Her teachers at the Royal Conservatory: Emile Bosquet, Andre Gertler, Marcel Maas and Marcel Quinet. Mieczsyslaw Horszowski at the Curtis Institute. Edwine Behre with whom she studied in New York and Vermont.
    Artist History
Jeanne was one of those musical children whose talent shows itself in kindergarten or before. In her little home village in Belgium she played near the site of an ancient castle that dated back to Charlemagne and gathered wild flowers and berries on a high mound, the burial place of Roman soldiers killed in long-forgotten battles. And all the while she was making up little musical pieces in her head. She would come home and play them on the piano to her father and mother, both music lovers, who had purchased a full size concert grand piano (Erard) for their little daughter. As Jeanne grew older and into a music-or-nothing person her parents enrolled her in the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels. She graduated with the Conservatory's most coveted award: Prix de Virtuosite avec Grande Distinction and a gold medal from the Belgian government. Then a scholarship from the International Queen Elizabeth Competition allowed Jeanne to study at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. On a career fast track, during the 1950's and 60's, Jeanne performed to much critical acclaim giving concert debuts in New York's Carnegie Recital Hall and Town Hall.
