Artist History
The original 'Swiv' grew up from the ashes of a band called 'Naked Thing', Chris (Guitar) along with two mates got together with Greg (Drums) and Dan (Bass) to play covers in
bars & clubs around Cardiff.
After about a year of gigging, events conspired to leave them without a frontman for
the following six months. After several line up changes ( and the odd name change )
the band joined up with a new vocalist (Stu) and guitarist (Sash) to become
Swivelhead.
At this stage original material was beginning to replace the covers and before long the
Swiv had enough material to hit the studios.
In February 1997 a five track demo "Superhuman" was produced in Big Noise studios Cardiff and went on sale in Spillers and Virgin megastore, much gigging ensued.
After an unsuccesful management deal it became clear that Stu was not the man for the job. He was replaced in April '98 by Irishman Gary, who was living in Cardiff at the time.
After some intensive rehearsing with Gary the band were ready for their first gig which
was local in Cardiff.
They began to look more closely at what they were doing and decided that some serious exposure was needed. Now doing mostly original material it was getting hard to find gig's locally. They headed off to London to find their audience.
Still using Superhuman as the basis for their
live material it was decided that the "New Swiv"
needed to be recorded as soon as possible.
In August 98 they put down a three track demo
"Light Flickers In" in LeMons studios, Newport.
This was followed in November by a further four tracks which was eventually merged with "Light Flickers in" and released as "Mind Of A Toy". |

Press Reviews
On the Homecoming Clowns Demo...
"The influence of American grunge bands like Pearl
Jam is obvious.....Gary has a powerful voice which
gives the band it's distinctive sound. The best track
by far is 'Take Me Away' which wouldn't be out of place on
a Counting Crows album....."
Swivelhead 'Superhuman' Demo CD
"Five track collection of demos from a
new Whitchurch based band who effortlessly
mix new jangle-pop with a kind of West Coast
'80s American vibe. A sort of Bluetones meets
the Eagles which is a compliment! Relaxing and
affecting, with 'What Is It About Love' emerging
as the choice track. On sale in Virgin and
Spillers"
