Artist History
Formed in 1989 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Dominated the band scene in Belfast before splitting in 1996. Gained UK wide recognition throughout late 1994 and 1995 thanks to their five track EP, 'Scarygoround'. The EP gained a 'Single of the Week' accolade in UK rock magazine 'Kerrang', and subsequent touring around the UK gained glowing live reviews. Three CD Ep's are the band's legacy: 'Static' in 1993, the prevously mentioned 'Scarygoround' in 1994 and 'Radio Hell' in 1996. Split following serious injuries to then bassist Gary Johnston in a mountain biking accident. Before splitting, the band had been dubbed "the most exciting band to come from Northern Ireland since Therapy" by Dublin based publication Hot Press. As a happy postscript, Gary has since made a full recovery. |

Press Reviews
"“Belfast-based Sweet Mary Jane have the songwriting suss to become the new Beatles... a classic four-piece Rock band, they know a damn good thing or two about Pop. Viciously addictive, Sweet Mary Jane offer great songs with some seriously hypnotic guitar and confidently expressive vocals.”" - Kerrang, UK"Undoubtedly the most exciting band to come from Northern Ireland since Therapy?... their music is alive with a humour and a vibrancy so sadly lacking in all the misery merchants currently congesting the airwaves" - Hot Press, Ireland"A unique sound" - Metal Hammer, Europe |
