    Artist History
Biography: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ After moving from Timmins to Toronto just over a year ago, Puddy have quickly established themselves as one of Toronto’s favourite heavy music bands. Combining the influences of Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Motorhead, and Helmet with strong melodies and uncompromising musicianship, Puddy continue to live up to the description written by Chris Gramlich of Exclaim! Magazine as "… a band defining their own style, Puddy kicks ass!" After 6 years spent in northern Ontario honing their skills, recording demos and touring across the province, Puddy won HTZ FM’s Rocksearch 2000. Following this, the decision was made to relocate to Toronto to pursue a career in music. The band has never looked back. Highlights of the past year include: • Signing on with the Agency Group booking agency offices in Toronto and Los Angeles • Playing numerous high profile opening slots including shows with Nickelback/Tantric/Stereomud at the Quest in Minneapolis (attended by 1400 people), J. Mascis and the Fog at the Opera House in Toronto (sold out show), and several dates around Ontario with Danko Jones, and Scratching Post • Playing at Edgefest (Emerging Artist stage), the Urban Avalanche (Toronto), and numerous well attended headlining shows at the El Mocambo (Toronto) • Playing showcases at Canada Music Week, North by Northeast, as well as a showcase at CBGB’s (New York) • Inclusion in Karen Bliss’ write up of Canada Music Week 2000 on the Rolling Stone website • Teaming up with McGathy Promotions, the company responsible for bringing Creed and 3 Doors Down to the attention of America’s A&R community Puddy currently has plans to tour the United States in the spring/summer of 2002. The band has also been in the studio this year recording the follow up to their "Sweetspot" album.

"Northern Ontario's finest hard music act, whose pissed-off stage presence parallels most major-label acts within their genre." E.M.P.T.Y. ***PUDDY-BIG BLOCK E.P. "While most of Canada's homegrown bands are dropping like flies, Timmins, Ontario's Puddy just keep getting better with each release. Their latest is a substantial improvement over their last self-titled disc, which showed a ton of potential. Puddy's unique sound is a sick combination of Helmet-style precision riffing, Kyuss blues jams and super distorted Fudge Tunnel noise, and while this sounds odd in theory, in practice the results are excellent. Big Block is also served well by better production and improved playing and shows a band defining their own style and constantly improving. Puddy kicks ass!"--Chris Gramlich, Exclaim magazine--******Sweetspot "It is a testament to the core members of Puddy that they've not only managed to persevere over the last seven years - despite line-up changes and the intrinsic problems that come with being an independent band from Canada playing heavy music, namely apathy - but have managed to evolve. Sweet Spot surpasses all the promises of their Big Block EP. Puddy's unique combination of Kyuss-styled guitar riffs, Helmet-like precision and the occasional descent into distorted pop is still present, but it has been tempered with a smoother blending of these influences, an increased emphasis on musical proficiency, singing and songwriting, and some newer elements. A more stripped down sound focuses more on catchiness than on distortion, although there is still plenty of aggression. Produced by Pete Hudson (Shallow ND, Trigger Happy, MVM) and featuring guest appearance by Victor Rebelo (Mundane) and Les Godfree (Tchort), Puddy has made an excellent album, one that will hopefully garner them some of the recognition they so justly deserve. "Chris Gramlich - May 30th 2000PUDDY - Sweetspot Posted By:robwrong Posted On:9/18/2000 11:27:00 PM PUDDY - SweetspotReview by Robwrong(StonerRock.com)13 songsMan, it took about three whole spins but it`s growing on me fast...This CD is full of heavy ass throttling riffs and blazing guitar leads. Lots of high-energy sludge that reminds me of somewhere between Helmet and Kyuss and a twist of Monster Magnet. A nice display of what these cats are capable of...Puddy is a group from Timmins Ontario formed back in `93 and are full of surprises. The guitar tones are full and thick, tuned down low... The vocals are mostly over the top, sometimes screaming but mostly singing with harmonies overdubbed at times. The songs are mostly of the mixed variety, going from straightforward riffs and then all of a sudden breaking into hardcore parts. Sometimes mixed meter but not overly mathy. They even kind of remind me of Tool at times. Lots of layered or doubled guitar parts that make it sound, well a little Indie Rock-ish... The vocal harmonies almost remind me of (I hate to say it, but...) The Offspring... Not that it`s a bad thing, it works real well for what Puddy is doing.Track 9 starts off with Reggae feel to it. This material really varies quite a bit making it real easy to like it. The guitar tones really remind me of Kyuss era Josh Holmme with its thick power chords and little notey rhythm riff leads thrown in. The songs really flow well, considering the fact that it goes from full blown fuzzed out Desert Rock into Punk Rock... well you get the idea...If you like Helmet, Kyuss or just about anything along those lines, and can appreciate a band that has a certain pop flare to it, you might dig upon this newest Puddy release.Strange but pleasantly different..."PUDDYSWEETSPOT(IND)Review by Matt FrighettoI stumbled across Puddy after downloading a track from stonerrock.com and from there on in they have blown me away!!!! Very catchy riffs, drum beats and vocals make this album stand out.Hard to say what kind of style they play because they play so many styles from riff rock to regaee. These Canadian rockers really kick ass and have a unique sound of there own which is very refreshing to hear and see. Also on this great release is Vitor Rebelo who plays in the kick ass heavy outfit Mundane he helps with some percussion on this release, stand out tracks are I Gave You My Love, You Gave Me The Clap, Was It Nothing. The Tale Of The Sleepy Air Traffic Controller and Barricade. I recommend this release for anyone into rock but looking for something different and new, great album.
