    Artist History
The formation of Murphy'z Law began in March of 1995. In the beginning the group consisted of Herb Burcham on lead vocals and guitar, Mike Durkee on bass and backing vocals, Larry Jones on keyboards and backing vocals, and Dave Weaver on percussion. The group had a sound of it's own from the onset but something was still missing. Herb is an excellent guitarist himself, but wanted to devote more of himself to lead vocals. This meant finding another guitarist that would fit their unique flavor of music. Herb began to search. He could think of only one person that could fill this spot. This person was Dennis Maxwell. Dennis was the one that first sparked Herb's interest in the guitar many years earlier. He had greatly influenced Herb's playing style also. Herb finally found his old friend but was sadly disappointed to find that he was no longer interested in playing in a group. Dennis had found a new calling. He had become a member of the Church of Christ several years earlier and was now a minister. Herb was disappointed yet still happy for his old friend. Dennis suggested Herb talk to his brother Jim. (Dennis hasn't stopped playing though. If you catch the band performing at some area Festivals and Fairs, you may be lucky enough to catch Dennis sitting in with the group!) Herb had also considered Jim but had been told he had stopped playing many years before. This was true. Jim had given up music for eight years due to many conflicts in his marriage. However this marriage had been over for two years now and Jim had once again met up with his oldest and best friend, the guitar. He joined the group in June of 1995 and fit like a glove. The group made their first public appearance on November 3rd, 1995 and was an instant success locally. In January of 1996, Larry Jones and Dave Weaver made the difficult decision to leave the group. They loved the music but had other obligations that conflicted with the bands busy schedule. Another drummer by the name of Fred Wesley joined the group for a short time but just didn't fit in the way the rest of the group did. He decided to leave after a few short months. They began auditioning for a new drummer once again. The first and only contestant, Dave Clemens. It must have been destiny. There was no need for any more auditions. Dave joined in like he had been with the group from the beginning. While recording our new CD we came in contact with a very talented keyboardist by the name of Roger Kleine. He agreed to do the keyboard tracks on the CD. It was another natural blend that fit like a glove. He has since joined the group making us complete. We have been very active ever since and have evenopened for "Molly Hatchet" and the "Georgia Satellite's" at "Southern Rock Woodstock" held in Fair Hill, MD on June 7th, 1997. In February of 1999 the next level began, with the release of "Livin' For The Moment"

{Strutterzine Magazine}MURPHY'Z LAW 'Livin' for the moment' (INDEPENDENT) This American band has been hugely influenced by Southern Rock acts such as LYNYRD SKYNYRD and MOLLY HATCHET. Still what I heard on the band's debut CD 'Livin' for the moment' wasn't that Southern Rock based as those acts. They can more be seen as a Southern Melodic (Hard) Rock band a la POINT BLANK, THE OUTLAWS and PAT TRAVERS (the bluesy influences here and there). The first song is the titletrack "Livin' for the moment", and this is a nice pure 70s uptempo rocker a la early HEAD EAST, TED NUGENT, STREETHEART, MOXY Further interesting songs are "Question of the ages" (good midtempo midwestern melodic rocker a la POINT BLANK, STEEPLECHASE, AXE… with some very nice vocals) and "Down to the river" (semi melodic rockballad a la TANGIER). The rest of the album is much more into the pure Southern Rock territory (LYNYRD SKYNYRD, ARS, MOLLY HATCHET). If you're a Southern Rockfan, you will love this band, but even some of the fans of 70s rock will like this. {Voltz Magazine} Andrew PaulFrom: copperplate Date: Wednesday, October 04, 2000 8:24 AMSubject: MURPHYZ LAW-"Livin' for the Moment"- IndependentGranted Murphyz Law have a few worn heels on their boots, but age doesn't matter a tinker's whatsit when a band serves up such righteous and indeed smokin' barrels of rock 'n' roll. The title track opens the show and slaps the unsuspecting listener about in true Molly Hatchet fashion, with Herb Burcham crooning like Danny Joe Brown with less gravel in his gullet. Then follows one of those Southern pride epics, "Rage in the Rebel's Eye", again very Hatchet with a nod and a tip of the brim to Doc Holliday, and Jim Maxwell's guitar how sweetly it does sing, and the heartfelt "The Best Thing", all soul and confessional cool, sounding like the Stones when they still meant it.Graced with a sympathetic production, Murpyz Law have produced the kind of album that the listener will be drawn to again and again, and it's clear from something like the honky tonk brawl of "livin' a lie"-very John Galvin in the piano department gentlemen-or the snaggle toothed "Junkyard Woman" that seeing these guys live would remind one of why you got into this music in the first place.Check the band's site at www.murphyzlaw.com or email them at Southernrocker@murphyzlaw.comEnjoy!
