Artist History
Formed in 1993 as "Boywonder", these well-known
Ottawa players soon were under pressure by their
live fans to record their original stuff. The
offspring of those sessions was their first full
CD, "Deep Fried Peace", an effort which the
critics hailed, and the fans loved. In fact,
the single "Breathe In" went TOP 20 on
Germany's alt-rock chart. DFP was chronically
sold-out throughout the loyal indie-supporting
retailers, and a pent-up supply of new material
and the enthusiasm, plus faith of Ottawa's
DISTORTION STUDIOS resulted in CD #2:
"Dead at Recess", which is currently being worked
to College Radio. A top-secret video project for
"Coolie's Sake" is currently under way. |

Press Reviews
"Wow! And I mean wow! hydrofoil's "dead at recess" is nothing short of awesome. hydrofoil is everything 90's rock bands dream of being. they bring together the best of the last 40 years of rock, seamlessly. and "dead at recess" starts off with a bang. the first track, "bright idea" is a power/pop/grunge classic with fast, edgy guitar riffs, a driving beat, and commanding vocals. from there the album backs off a bit but never lags. nearly every song has the sound of a hit waiting to happen. i find the majority of the album somewhere between Pearl Jam and the Counting Crows (for their captivating although somewhat cryptic lyrical style). and in tunes like "coolie's sake" and "sharbot lake" hydrofoil has created roots rock/pop masterpieces that would do Uncle Tupelo or the Gin Blossoms proud. hydrofoil is one "small" band with a gigantic sound and a very bright future. click above and enjoy.

"Sort of a cross between the bands Live and Toad the Wet Sprocket, this four-piece play tight, hooky power pop that's very melodic and commercial -- but with enough of a guitar edge that makes them not overly slick…there's lots of compelling craft and energy here from this Ottawa, Canada-based band."
Music Connection, Los Angeles, USA
"This fearless foursome has a sound that falls somewhere between power popsters such as Vancouver's The Odds and meaty rockers such as Pearl Jam. Taut, heavy guitar riffs float over punchy on-the-beat rhythms, punctuated by off-beat lyrics…"
- The Ottawa Citizen, Ottawa, ON
"Dead At Recess's opening track, Bright Idea displays a healthy dose of forceful, riff-oriented pop, but compositions like Ice Age and Momentum progress effortlessly to reveal a more patient and rhythmically interesting writing style that exposes strong melodic hooks, with edgy, aggressive guitar offsetting the more refined moments."

Live Show
"An Ottawa-based band, (Hydrofoil) are four solid musicians who put on one bastard of a show. Junk culture meets pop music. They can dazzle you one moment with their snappy, shiny shirts and cynical wit, the next blow your mind with lead guitarist Patrick Roach's ear-licking, hard-edged guitar riffs. Led often by a heart-beating bass and drum rhythm that can shake the dance floor, the pure and commanding vocal stylings of lead singer Luigi Saracino are not lost in the hysteria. He has a powerful, serious and quite distinct voice…(Hydrofoil) has established themselves as a "must-see" band…I can guarantee it won't be long till (Hydrofoil) crack the national market…
