Artist description
Yoboso was formed in 1993 by Ricky Malichi and Bert Dalton. Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the group has toured throughout the U.S. with appearances in Australia and Mexico, released two recordings, won the 1995 BET Jazz Discovery Competition, and was twice selected Best Recording of the Year in the New Mexico Music Industry Coalition Awards. Yoboso has received national airplay and both recordings have been rated in top 20 Latin music airplay in Miami. Highlights of 1999 include Yobosoís third appearance at the renowned Telluride Jazz Celebration and concert appearances in West Virginia, North Carolina, Utah. The quartet headlined the Manly International Jazz Festival, Australiaís longest running and largest (100,000 people) jazz festival with additional appearances in Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. |

Bert DaltonBert Dalton has been a career jazz pianist since 1971. He grew up in Chicago where he began playing at age 8. Bert received his music education at Northern Illinois University studying under Ron Modell and J.B. Floyd. He toured the US, Australia, and New Zealand with the Chicago Jazz Exchange, heard on CBS Records. Bert has participated in two dozen recordings in varying capacities of pianist, arranger, composer, producer, and engineer. He has performed with Frank Morgan, Bud Shank, Herbie Mann, Gene Lees, Anita OíDay, Von Freeman, Pete Barbutti, Greg Abate, Doug Lawrence, Daniel Binelli, Santa Fe Pro Musica, and the Smothers Brothers. Bert has been a rostered artist with the Arizona Commission on the Arts and New Mexico Arts, has served on the faculty of the International Jazz and Pop Harpfest, was presented by the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and is currently Music Director for the National Dance Institute.Gary CardileGary Cardile grew up in Kansas City singing and playing in soul and rhythm & blues bands. In 1970, he moved to Los Angeles and established himself working with artist such as saxophonists Hank Crawford, Lou Donaldson, Ronnie Laws, Sonny Stitt, and Grover Washington Jr., vocalists Charles Brown, Sammy Davis Jr., Percy Mayfield, Esther Phillips, Lou Rawls, and Little Richard. Gary has also performed with pianists Eddie Cano, Claire Fischer, Jack McDuff and Phineas Newborn Jr., bassists John Heard, Larry Gales, and Chuck Rainey, and guitarists George Benson and Grant Green. Ricky MalichiRicky was born in Riverside, California, but has lived the majority of his life in El Paso, Texas. A graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso in special education and music, Ricky has played with music greats such as Herb Ellis, Chuck Berry, Charlie Rouse, Tanya Tucker, Tommy Newsome, Mose Allison, William Galison, The Coasters, The Platters, Richie Cole, Regina Carter, Don Ellis, Chris Calloway, Vicky Carr, Danny Thomas, Art Pepper and Jack Sheldon. He has been a guest soloist with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and the New Mexico State Lab Band. Ricky has been named to the Mapex Drums Artist Roster.http://www.rickymalichi.comRob Milo JaramilloRob Milo Jaramillo is a native New Mexican of Spanish and Native American (Isleta Pueblo) heritage. He began playing sax and flute at age 12 and switched to bass in high school. At the University of New Mexico, he studied music, education, and private bass lessons with Mark Tatum. Since then, Rob has worked in a variety of musical styles with jazz names such as pianists John Lewis and Tommy Berndtsson, trombonist Bill Watrous, conga great Tony Quinones, and LA session woodwind player Gary Foster among others. He also performed at the International Flamenco Festival with artists such as Chuscales, El Pelete, La Tania, and Daniel Ward. Rob has toured the US extensively with the world-renowned variety show, the Pink Flamingos. He recently co-produced a gospel CD recording with vocalist Hillary Urzetta and the Soul Commitment Choir entitled ìHigher Ground. Rob joined Yoboso in 1999. |
