    Press Reviews
"Butch Ross is but one in a long line of latter day storytelling songwriters--one that includes everyone from Steve Wynn to James McMurtry. The songs on his just-released "Selected Workd of Friction" are hand-worn, affiable, and warm. Fleshed out by an all acoustic sound of violin, upright bass and drums that recalls nothing so much as the late great [legendary philly band] Low Road, Ross spins his yarns in a tone that is conversational and occasionally wistful--and literate in a way that explains that CD's cover image: a lonely, forgotten, old typewriter. -Joey Sweeney Philadelphia Weekly."...at Fergie's, local urban folkie Butch Ross fronts a fiddle-upright bass-and-percussion band and contends with a Saturday night lager crowd. Despite a lousy sound mix, Ross' energetic performance wins the crowd over with songs such as "You Look Fine in That Dress" -Tom Moon, Philadelphia Inquirer."it's a happy Nick Drake with a stumbling Bronx backbeat, an upright bass and fiddle...literary Hick-Hop." A.D. Amorosi -Philadelphia City Paper.
