Artist History
Began playing at the age of 15 (36 now). First garage band at age 17. Played in numerous bands in his local area of Charleston, SC. Most notable of these were Sterling, RipperJack and Wretched Excess. Placed 4th in the Local Battle of the bands while in Wretched Excess. Wretched Excess' song "I need your love" was accepted to the "Home Cookin" compilation album for local musicians and the music for "I need your Love", arrangement and even some of the vocal melodies were penned by Michael. The song propelled Wretched Excess into the spotlight of the local scene, making them big local favorites. Mostly the music he was involved in during these years was 80's rock and metal. He loves Journey and Styx, but they were not as hot as bands like Ratt, Warrant and Whitesnake at that time, so he conformed. He left to go on the road with a band called Vagrant Justice to garner "road experience." Vagrant was a blues/metal party rock and roll kind of band. The band did covers of such bands as AcDc, Guns and Roses, Faster Pussycat and Judas Priest as well as some original material. The band gained a healthy following in the SouthEast region, opening for bands in the area like Jackyl (who later went on to a large label deal). After the typical scenario that follows on the heels of massive drinking and such by young musicians, Michael returned home and was eventually asked to join a band that did 70s, 80s and 90s pop rock, strangely enough named "Poetic Justice." Michael finally got to play Journey and Styx with a band which even had a musician from another band he had been with, Wretched Excess. Poetic Justice gained some local interest but eventually parted ways as members got older and began to have "normal" lives, as it were. During this period, Michael seriously considered never being involved with music again, and sold off every piece of equipment he had, such was his disenchantment with musicians. Alas, he DID hold on to one guitar, one that he could just not bear to part with. In time, the music would creep back into his head and after living a "normal," working life, he began to afford things that would eventually bring music back into his life. Now MTW is discovering the world of the internet as it relates to music and is totally ready to let his heart sing again... |
