Artist description
If you’ve listened to the music of film composer John Williams, then you have some idea of the style of music you’ll find here...flowing melodies in a full orchestral setting. From the melodic point of view, someone who enjoyed Johann Strauss might also find music to their liking here. |
|
Music Style
The music here is in a full orchestral style, very melodic in nature. I also write for jazz ensembles, and plan to add music of that idiom at a later date. |
|
Musical Influences
Although my ideas spring from listening to a wide variety of composers, three influences that come to mind are Brahms, Bruckner, and Sibelius. |

Artist History
Don grew up in a home that listened to all styles of music, fostering a broad background to call upon in his writing and playing career. His early formal training was as a classical player. His dream from pre-school years was to play the tuba, and the dream eventually led to a performance degree from Hartt College of Music. Don developed a taste for jazz when he began studying the bass in high school, and continued playing in college. To help pay for his schooling, he played electric bass in the Connecticut area with various bands, and found in that instrument what proved to be his most personal voice. After graduating from Hartt, Don worked for over ten years as a studio bass player and singer doing jingle work in New York and Connecticut. He also played with jazz guitarist, Tony Purrone, and a couple of New York area rock bands.During the same period, Don began composing. Most of his early pieces were written for jazz ensembles that he was working with at the time. But, his urge to compose continued past his band years and eventually turned toward classical ensembles. He is actively pursuing performance venues for several pieces that he has written for symphony orchestra. Don has composed pieces for high school and middle school bands and has contributed voice and accompaniment arrangements to a series of educational audio tapes. Don has also worked as a music copyist for multi-cultural publications, local orchestras and recording sessions. This has led to staff arranging and orchestration of television documentary segments and other works for a well-known Connecticut based producer. Don continues to pursue this area of interest |
