Press Reviews
Circle of Dead Children: Starving The Vultures {* * * * * +++} Aw shit. I would pay big money to see hardcore kids whothink they dig metal buy this because it's on Creation is Crucifixion's label. Jason/Willowtip is a sick metal head and is definitelygoing to alter the minds of young children with this release. It's HEAVY AS HELL. The first song is under 45 seconds but just plowseverything in its path. A lot of people have the Relapse sampler/compilation "Corporate Death" and have been raving about thesuper-fast and super-heavy Mortician demo/rehearsal song on that. They say it's one of the heaviest songs death metal has everseen. Well, if you like that song, you'll dig the sick music that is Circle of Dead Children. That guy has a disgustingly deep voiceand the music is just skull-crushing heavy. I don't even want to review this. I almost died laughing when I heard the first song. You look at Mortician who have been doing their thing for a good ten years now and here come Circle of Dead Children out of the middle of nowhere and just pulverize anything "The heaviest band on earth" has made. I may have gotten a little ahead of myself, but trust me…It's fucking HEAVY. Of course, I don't see the "true death metal" people eating this up because it's not all gut-wrenching, double-bass-ridden music. It's got structure and it actually stands out from a lot of other bands. It's disgusting. I thought it'd be one of those half metal half hardcore gigs, and I get this. All I have to say is that Willowtip is going to control the universe if they keep putting out stuff like this and Circle of Dead Children will eat your first born and leave you with nothing but this amazing twenty-fiveminute, fourteen song piece of eclectic plastic. If you like throwing bricks at your feet, you'll enjoy listening to this extraordinary debut album. - LOUDNET -The first recording from this Pittsburgh area band who plays unique death metal/grind with political/social lyrics, Circle of Dead Children is sure to gain a quick following. Comparable to the likes of Assuck, Exhumed, Cephalic Carnage and Systral, Circle of Dead Children is sure to please metal-heads and lovers of extreme hardcore. Starving The Vultures contains 14 songs clocking in atover 22 minutes. - BLOODSOAKED PROMOTIONS -Circle Of Dead Children "starving the vultures" lp ass cranking emotive grindcore from Usa, great recording, total heartattack! Well. CODC is a brutal death metal band managing to provide original song writing, clever lyrics, good looking cover artwork & booklet design. Must admit this is quite rare! They made great efforts on the sound production too; really clear and powerful. This is not exactly "pure" death metal or grindcore. I would say it's an unconventional but brutal kind of death metal. The way they play it is not common, but still really straight forward and basic. There's a freedom in their concept and lyrics topics reminding me of Inhumate(France). On the edge of grindcore because of the variety of song structures, from very short, around 50 seconds to a 2 or 3 minutes. There's also a few blasts and alternate growls/screams vocals. But the music is definitely more death metal oriented. You can hear that the compositions are carefully worked. The fastness level is very well dosed, but midtempo and slow parts still have a major part. I personally think it seriously lacks of some wild grindcore wildness rawness (should carefully study early Napalm Death works!), but this is only my opinion. This cd contains 14 damn good songs for 24 minutes. And death-grind addicts should certainly just eat this up. Hope you won't mind if I compare them to Cephalic Carnage? I just can say that if you liked "Conforming to abnormality" you might like this cd too. I also highly recommend visiting their website... which is quite a piece of art: http://circlegrind.tripod.com/ - Reviewed by Pierre goregrind@hotmail.com Goregrind and Grindcore Webzine - The first release from this unique death metal / grindcore band has already made an impression on the underground metal scene, 14 songs 22 minutes, behold... the chalice of rock has been passed. - MIDHEAVEN MAILORDER -I've read alot of cool things about C.O.D.C., I must say I agree with the critics who say that C.O.D.C. is doing something a bit different. I was thinking the whole time before popping this cd in that C.O.D.C. were full throttle grind-core. Yeah, ok they do have blast beats but they also have a big death metal influence, which is evident with the mid-pace riffing. A good diverse range of vocal styles (gruffs to growls to screams) and a mint production plus thought provoking lyrics round out this top notch extreme metalrelease. - CHILDREN OF CAIN -Circle of Dead Children "Starving The Vultures" CD. This is so amazingly sick. I can't stop listening to it, to be quite honest. Very heavy, very sick, and very evil sounding. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite CDs. I know this doesn't help explain what the band is like, but I don't care. Just go buy this record. - Plus/Minus Records - |
