    Artist description
    Buttcheek Doofus is a power trio founded by front person johanna anonymoS. johanna, her electrified guitar and her rythm section have created a parallel universe far from the brain washed millions of corperate rock victims. The absurdity of corporate rock and the shallow vanity of small minded people are what Buttcheek Doofus rail against most. Skillfully blending wayward notes and potent insightful lyrics into an obliquely powerful dissonance. Buttcheek Doofus has managed to find the cracks in all worn out paradigms and may very well shatter them altogether. Most herding masses of present pop culture lack the vision to understand this new direction in music just as few dared to believe that the earth was round. However, in every herding mass of rockers there are those who think on their own with a flair for intellect and adventure. These kindred individuals will undoubtedly find excitement and perhaps a like minded point of view when they catch a Buttcheek Doofus performance. PHOTOS (see link

    Artist History
    johanna anonymoS started recording her first songs at the age of fourteen. By the time she was fifteen she was an established performer of local clubs and the bold and charismatic front person of her own band Buttcheek Doofus. The rhythm section of bassist Norm Floyd and drummer Alfred Smith provide a powerful compliment of percussion and rumblings. Now with two full CDs of all original material available Buttcheek Doofus is often sought after by political and feminist organizations at Universities in Southern California and can also be seen performing at night clubs, concerts and coffee shops in and around the Santa Barbara

    Press Reviews
    ~~~~~~~~~(by Ted Mills SB Independent Positively State St. 4-18-2002) I'M EMBARRASSED to admit I had't seen Buttcheek Doofus, the band that sounds like a Billy Corgan and P.J. Harvey lovechild, until they played Espresso Roma this Friday, where they've become the house band of sorts. Lead pixie/singer johanna anonymoS has already got at 17 what other potential front-people long for: undeniable, yet personable and humble, charisma. How else could she get away with a personal song about a clueless beau, sexual frustration, a vibrator, and Parentus Interruptus, when the boyfriend is in the audience and dad is playing bass? It's enough to send critics like Greil Marcus into paroxysms of Sleater-Kinney-fueled effusions. And you can quote me on that. ~~~~~~~~~(Positively State St. by Keir DuBois 4-12-2001) Buttcheek Doofus --- if you know them, you envy them. From their recent mauling of the Tom Waits tune "Filipino Box Spring Hog" at the Jolly Tiger's February "Tom Waits Tribute Show" to the hijacking of the Isla Vista rainforest benefit crowd at Giovanni's in January, these resolute crazies have an impressive streak of musical individualism on record --- their genre bending albums f.I.sh and april both melt time signatures at whiplash speed but still leave time for melody. If you've seen a show you know what I mean --- the rabid anti television anti Britney Spears rants of front woman johanna anonymoS are consistent with one of the band's guiding principles, "irreverently flipping the finger at the industry". Indeed their cheek spanking new indie CD "Highway Mona Lisa" includes a bent little ditty called "I always wanted to name a song Bob Dylan" that takes on the Top Forty with breathless verbiage faster than "Subterranean Homesick Blues" or REM's "It's The End Of The World As We Know It". Each of these little visions of johanna is clear, concise, and exciting --- Especially live, so treat yourself and check them out. When? In support of their album, Buttcheek Doofus, "a three piece band that stands against established paradigms, fronted by a young woman with a defiant point of view and an even bigger guitar" ~~~~~~~~~ (by Duncan Wright SB Independent 5-4-2000). johanna is a "little noise muffin" ~~~~~~~~~ (by Duncan Wright SB Independen 5-4-2000) [About the album f.I.sh], "...in short it rocks, inprecisely and without precident" ~~~~~~~~~(by Dennis Tivey Santa Barbara Independent. 11-23-99) "Buttcheek Doofus is one of the things in the local music scene to be thankful for this Thanksgiving". ~~~~~~~~~( Will York Editor of Listen.com 8-18-99) Sometimes names are a little deceiving. This female-fronted California trio plays melodic, slightly skewed rock with a snide sense of humor (not of the scatological variety you might expect). Charmingly direct and unaffect
