    Artist History
Always being influenced by science fiction, space, spirituality and androgyny, Tory was known in 1980-1984 as a flamboyant guest musician with artsy punk/new wave St.Louis bands. From 1984-1998 Tory helped form, compose muzik and perform in Vinyl Emissary, Saturnalia Glossalalia, Futurist Manifesto, Ultraviolet Renaissance and neXt rAdio. After neXt rAdio disbanded in 1998 (starting in 1990) Tory and his girlfriend Venus decided to form Kinetic Telepathy, a multi-media arts company that would include Tory's solo project as well as paintings, photography, spoken word recordings, dance, etc. that Venus created. Tory had been recording solo projects since 1996 and was playing them on his radio show in St. Louis. A new band was formed and recorded a soundtrack for a theatre performance. Next came live shows of new muzik combined with performance art created by Venus and Tory. And now, here are some recordings at your disposal...take them into space and enjoy.

    Press Reviews
"an avalanche of synthesizers, a dabbling in guitars and beats, an identifiably progressive-as in "prog-rock"-approach to music creation, a vocal moan that runs from gruelingly deep to gratingly steep tones, and the thematic base of his entire output: science fiction and the future." Riverfront Times (Aug. 25, 1999). "With Bowie-esque vocalisation draped (and reverberated) over droning, blippy electronics, and Starbuck's effected violin on Scoping Futures, fans of space rock and other futurist musics will have a new hero." Interface(July/Aug 1999). "Imagine, at times, a Rozz Williams, Bowie-inspired atmosphere run through a Mystery Science 3000 filter and you'll start grasping the Starbuck mythos." Interface(Sept/Oct 1999). " Airzoan is the latest futuristic offering by Tory Z Starbuck: this one's an opera about Arizona circa 2017, inspired by the architectural work of Antoine Predock"..."which is about Agent SLV, the "Prophet Predock," a future war and cloning. He mixes this storyline with his standard instrumentation and accent, which recalls '70s-era Eno, Bowie, King Crimson and Ultravox. Starbuck calls this one of his "favourite (and potentially most pretentious) albums." He's on the mark on both accounts"...Riverfront Times (Feb 2 2000).
