Artist History
Playgirl is the newest player emerging in the rap game, but this girl is in a league of her own. Born and raised in Southern California Playgirl (Dalyce Kelley), wrote her first rhyme at 12. Initially rapping at high school house parties, Playgirl began writing raps about her own life experiences and as a teenager knew she wanted to pursue a career in the music industry. After finishing high school, she went to college and majored in Broadcasting Communications when she landed her first gig as a radio personality. On air at 99.1 KGGI in Riverside, California, Playgirl flexed her skills rapping during mix shows and station promos. After the enormous response from the program director and the listeners, she knew that she needed to take her talent seriously. She had already met the head of the Riverside Record Pool working at the station and gave him a demo showing her skills over instrumental beats, which was recorded in the stations production room. Impressed with her talent, he introduced her to up-coming super-producer Stealth. With her street smart flow and his funky tracks, the resulting collaboration was pure musical synchronicity.“West Coast Funk” is just one of the cuts off of her self-titled up-coming album. “West Coast Funk” combines Playgirls hard but distinctly feminine rap style with a smooth, funk track that will definitely bump on any dance floor and definitely control air waves. “That’s The Way I Like It” is another bumpin cut, with fly lyrics over a funky track that leaves no doubt how Playgirl likes it. The variety of styles go on with cuts like, “Life and Death” and “My Sound” collaborations with Reggae artist Ras D. “Come Into My World” a duet with Pop Love who has an East Coast type flow. Playgirl got together with Chocolate on “Every Dog Will Get His Day” which every lady can get into. Playgirl wants her music to be enjoyed by many. “Through my music I want people to be able to relax, chill, relate, with something to groove too and still bump in their jeeps.” |
