    Artist description
Martin Knizia was born in Husum, Germany. He studied church music, organ and harpsichord at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, where his organ teacher was Martin Haselböck.When only 21 he was appointed Assistant Organist at Lübeck's St Jakobi church where he was privileged to be able to play the two famous historic organs. After finishing his studies in Germany he went on a postgraduate course at the Royal Academy of Music where his teacher was David Titterington. He graduated in 1999 and was awarded one of the prestigious fellowships of the RAM and teaches baroque organ improvisation and figured bass playing on the behalf of the Academy.Martin regularly appears as an organ soloist in Germany and England. In 1998 he performed J.S. Bach's “Third Part of the Clavierübung” in the London Bach Festival. His research on early keyboard music resulted in an edition of Orlando Gibbons's organ works for the Universal Edition's "Series for Organ".Martin Knizia is the organist of the Dutch Church in London, that is the home of the Sweelinck Choir, Ensemble & Players, which he formed shortly after his arrival in London. The Sweelinck Ensemble was selected for the finals of the Early Music Network Competition in York earlier this year. The competition was subsequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Both his choir and orchestra have a busy schedule with appearances in venues like St. James’s, Piccadilly, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the Little Brompton Oratory and the London Bach Festival.
