Artist History
In 1989, Gary, a production manager at a Rochester, NY-based photographic company discovered he had a knack for entertaining children when he brought his guitar to his daughter's nursery school to play a couple of songs for "Dads' Day." After the performance, teachers and parents impressed by his concert asked if he had any recordings of the songs. Taking an idea from one of the songs he had written, a Happy Pirate was born and Gary set sail on a new adventure. Since that first performance, Gary the Happy Pirate has carved out a successful award-winning career in children's entertainment. Gary counts two coveted Parents' Choice awards for excellence in children's recording, including the Classic Award for 1993's "Mega Pegga Legga Dinosaurus." In the television field, he has received a New York State Emmy Award and a New York State Broadcasters' Award for "Outstanding Program Series Designed for Children." Currently, Gary and his producers are working on securing national syndication for a brand new series. While they're not working on their televsion series, Gary and his wise-cracking puppet buddy, Yo Ho, perform nearly 200 concerts every year throughout the Northeast. Gary's travels have even taken him to the White House twice for the President's annual Easter Egg Roll. In Garth Brooks fashion, Gary pulls out all the stops to put on a fun-filled concert geared for the entire family. Leading his audiences through sing-alongs and dancing, combining humor, child-centered themes and rock 'n roll elements, Gary's concerts are a treat for the whole family. As a father of six, children's happiness and well-being has always been very important to Gary. In 1996, Gary founded a nonprofit organization called the Pirate Toy Fund that provides toys to hospitalized children in Gary's hometown of Rochester. The organization is growing and plans to expand to other cities in the near future. With imminent rewards looming on the horizon, Gary continues his voyage into the new millennium, bringing the treasure of entertainment to Happy Pirates everywhere. |
